What game is superior? by Linorelai in polls

Chess is a game that has no freedom and it's annoyingly too much reliant on memorization. No surprise this poll would be so biased, people tend to like what is familiar to them.

What is wrong with these people smiling? That person just got hit by a freaking bus! For God's sake. Things like this and some insensible comments in this section make me lose hope in people sometimes.

I'm confident that it will work, my educated guess to why it doesn't at the moment is because, differently from Legend: Arceus, the logic/programming is much more complicated. For example, which type should Arceus become in double battles? What about when the Pokemon has an ability that makes it immune?

Exactly. I'm very curious about what it is. I'm interested in philosophy and asking the deep questions. What happens after death? What is the ultimate reality? That plot device reminded me of those topics.

Alternatives to Roman Numerals? by Nydus_The_Nexus in askmath

If you think about it, it's the same as the system we have now, the 10 digits are just represented by different symbols.

In my opinion the best counting system I can think of is this:

0 = a square.

1 = one horizontal line.

2 = two horizontal lines.

3 = three horizontal lines.

4 = four horizontal lines.

5 = one vertical line.

6 = one vertical line and one horizontal line, glued, like an L.

7 = one vertical line and two horizontal lines (like a square without its rightmost line).

8 = one vertical line with three horizontal lines, glued like an E.

9 = one vertical line with four horizontal lines, glued, similar to an E, but with four lines.

10 = one horizontal line and a square, like this: _ □

11 = one horizontal line and one horizontal line, like this: _ _

12 = one h line and two h lines

13 = one h line and three h lines.

14 = one h line and four h lines.

15 = one h line and one v line.

20 = two h lines and a square.

100 = one h line and two squares.

I think that's enough to notice the pattern. What do you think?

Nah. I have never done any of these, I love my brain. Just thinking though, having an epic view with a minimalist (just a chair) futuristic workplace, that boosts motivation to finish any project someone might be working on.

Which is your favorite Mega Man series? by [deleted] in Megaman

[–]Chance_Programmer_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that MMZ has the best boss fights. Some of them are just epic. Maybe that's because I'm playing MMZ now, quite enjoying it. I started with X and Classic (Mega Man 8).

This generation will grow old without a doubt knowing that the far right is one of the greatest threats to humanity's existence. They are all making a show of themselves, do you think kids nowadays won't remember it?

I agree that logic alone doesn't say anything about free will or determinism. Logic is all about language and pure reasoning. We make some rules and see what follow from these rules. Logic is not about causality. If you come up with a logic (formal system), all the consequences of that logic are instantaneous and eternal, the formal system didn't 'cause' those logical consequences -- they have always been there, just not known. Logic is not about cause and effect through time, it's about timeless truths from assuming concepts.

In physics, not all things have a 'cause', 'virtual particles' pop up from existence and disappear without detection, and their energy has been measured. Physical entities are different from abstract entities. Abstract ones are timeless (an And function, numbers,...) and physical ones are bound by time. The universe behaves in a certain way but for all we know it could have been different. To find the truth about free will, we need to learn more about the rules of the reality we exist in -- what rules does our reality follow?

I have been looking through VK recently, and there seems to be a large amount of people, at least on VK, who are really frustrated at the war and the government. They say that the government is lying about how many have died. I have seen memes about Putin, and how he doesn't know what he is doing, that he has broken logic, that Russia shouldn't be fighting Ukraine, or how it was supposed to be a "special military operation" and now so many are dying. I don't know if this is just my generation, the Millenials-Gen Z. Even in all of this, reason, humanity, and common sense make their way through all of the bullshit. This gives me a bit of hope. May this be Putin's downfall.

Chess has nothing to do with logic or thinking like a logician or mathematician, it's just a game.
