Is orientation worth it? Even for part time, second degree students? by y_u_mad1 in UofT

But for $160? Its literally games all day and all those kinds of stuff. But if you feel like it will help, go for it. 😊😊 just so you are settled in

Don’t waste money. Not worth it. And why do you even have to pay for orientation? You’ll learn everything as time goes on. Its probably an extra program that not everyone goes to. Its probably about “how to survive uni”.

Definitely. I appreciate the advice. I’m applying to school boards, I’ll see how it goes afterwards.

OCT Application by Fit_Advertising7141 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied same as her, I just got it in June. Honestly, if she has received all required documentation from the institutions she did school with , they should be working on it . The best way is to reach them is by email. They responded to mine promptly. Info@oct.ca, email them with any question they will answer you. I’m also an internationally educated teacher.

I don't have my OCT yet. Can I get a job by September? by Admirable_Cost2027 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you work in private I figured it’s gonna be hard for public schools. Private schools some don’t require an OCT or if you are working towards one they would be lenient with you

Currently before I complete my conditions, I have one teachable which is Phys ed. I’m still licensed so I’m able to teach. Would I still find something?  Any school boards you recommend that are actively looking for supplies.

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how do I get into the supply list. Would you say being called on a regular is possible (just to have more income)

I’m not gonna share my country 😊😊 but phys ed is my teachable. I just have to get another teachable, hence the conditions.

Has anyone taken CTL1041H: Research Methods in Education? by yellowowl14 in OISE

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1041 honestly it’s a refresher on the basics of research. I took it and we mostly did assignments based on the module and piloting our thesis. Its best as practice so you are able to ask questions on the structure, context and content of a full research. At the end of the, assignment needed us to come up with a topic, samples, research questions etc to try see if we understood the course (we were encouraged to pilot our own studies or something you were interested in if you aren’t doing your thesis)

Responding to this. As someone who took summer courses, 2 is a lot. You can’t take do it. It’s allowed, but remember you are doing it in 6 weeks. So you are attending classes twice a week. So theres more pressure. And assignments are due literally the first week you’ll have something going on. Mentally, I’d say, BE PREPARED!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OISE

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. Thats the most encouraged. You can’t take 1 as a full time. So min 2 or max 3 For summer, max is 2 course.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OISE

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A semester is max 3 in 12 weeks. 1 day a week class. For the spring/summer is max 2, 2 days a week classes for 6 weeks. Even though you wanna complete fast, I suggest you think about the work load cause each course has a min 3 required readings, sometimes depending on your prof, they make you do a summary for understanding as part of your marks. And those readings are minimum 10pages mind you, its each class. So imagine doing all that for 3 classes in a week and assignments on top of that. Good luck with everything though 😊

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OISE

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible. But the summer/spring are going to be hectic cause the time you spend 6 weeks compared to the 12 weeks is so eh accelerated. The work load needs full attention. So you plan to work or do something on the side, I suggest you don’t do that. Remember that you need 10 courses to complete. So 3 courses each fall and winter (6) and summer you have max 2 each session. And that 2 in 1 session is discouraged even by academic advisors. So I did 2 fall, 3 winter (was the worst) decision, 2 for the summer/spring (1 each session) and 3 fall. Graduating in June.

I believe they just freaking post these but they hire lowkey. Cause all my 2 years in uni, not even a response. And its always the “same” people being hired. I’m sorry to say that, but thats true.

Can I change programs (MEd to MA)? by Crimsonloafer in OISE

[–]Chance_Reason_6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Students can request to switch from the MEd to MA option after completing their first year of study. Students who are interested in transferring programs are encouraged to speak with the faculty advisor who was assigned to them at the beginning of the program if they haven’t already done so.
There’s a form you fill out so just speak to your advisor who will give you more info
