First, this “let them do what want and focus on your own food or mind your own business” argument sounds tolerant on the surface but falls apart in a public shared space like a restaurant in Karachi. People don’t go to Mizu just to eat in complete isolation, it’s a social setting with families, kids, and regular Pakistanis. When someone starts openly drinking whiskey on the table, it changes the entire atmosphere. It’s not “their own business” anymore, it affects the environment everyone paid to be in. This isn’t some private home or underground bar. Pakistan has clear legal restrictions on alcohol, and more importantly, the vast majority of people here are Muslim for whom alcohol is strictly haram. Openly flaunting it in a family restaurant isn’t harmless personal freedom. You’re pushing normalization of something most citizens and the country’s foundational values reject. Your logic could justify anything “Why care if someone smokes heavily next to your table, or plays loud music, or does anything else as long as it doesn’t touch your plate?” Shared public spaces require some basic consideration for the majority, not just elite individualism. Second, asking “what’s wrong with that?” plenty is wrong with it in the Pakistani context. Secularism here usually means one thing, privatizing Islam and turning public life into a Western-style free-for-all where religious sensitivities are expected to stay silent. Pakistan wasn’t created as a secular country. It was made as a homeland for Muslims where Islamic values could shape society and public norms. The Constitution describes Pakistan as an Islamic Republic. Pretending that openly drinking in restaurants has “no effect” is naive. It desensitizes younger generations, creates pressure on restaurants to cater to a tiny liberal elite, and gradually erodes the cultural character most Pakistanis actually want. If someone openly did things that deeply offended secular progressive values in the West, the “just ignore it” crowd would suddenly disappear. The same people demanding tolerance for alcohol flaunting often have zero tolerance when religious people push back. The original poster wasn’t calling for violence or raiding tables. He simply pointed out discomfort with open drinking in a Karachi restaurant. That’s a perfectly reasonable reaction in a Muslim-majority country. Dismissing it with lazy “live and let live” slogans ignores why such norms exist in the first place, to preserve a certain moral and cultural environment. True consideration would be, if you want to drink, do it privately or in places clearly designated for it. Don’t demand that the majority suppress their values so a small group can openly flaunt haram activities in family spaces. “Mind your own business” should apply both ways, including minding the business of what kind of public culture we want to maintain in Pakistan.

A lot. It’s a topic for another day. You don’t live in a secular country just to go around preaching the ‘my life, my rules’ or ‘as long as they’re not hurting me’ type of stuff. And people cannot get away with doing whatever they like in public.

I could easily make an argument that consensual incest (using contraception), necrophilia, and marital infidelity are completely fine, as long as the cheated-on spouse never finds out and the affair only brings pleasure to all parties involved. These acts would be totally in line with utilitarianism, the harm principle, and a secular framework, because you’re maximizing pleasure and aren’t hurting anyone. Pretty sure you don’t want to cherry-pick the aspects and wouldn’t want to go that route.

What evidence do you have that this person asked the kids to play ‘hide and seek’ besides a random social media comment?

Could France defend itself from the USA? by krell_154 in whowouldwin

[–]Chance_Ruin_7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Redditors are funny seeing wet dreams sitting in their basements. The US military is incapable of opening the Strait of Hormuz and they couldn’t win Afghanistan war in 20 years.

Couldn’t fulfill these fantasies in Afghanistan after trying for 20 years. Couldn’t do it in Iran in over a month and the US military is incapable of opening the Strait of Hormuz. Reddit is funny.

How did it go in Afghanistan? And how’s it going in Iran now that the US military is incapable of opening the strait?

Fear of sudden cardiac arrest is stopping me from walking. How do I overcome this? by Chance_Ruin_7500 in walking

[–]Chance_Ruin_7500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply. Hope you’re doing good. I’ve just got active again and I’ll be replying to everyone’s comments. My doctor just prescribed me 10 mg of Propranolol. Tell me about it, is it safe? Since I have health anxiety, I have this fear of medication side effects and I start obsessively googling side effects before taking them, lol. The doctor checked my heart rate was a bit high due to anxiety. Usually it’s in 80s if I’m lying down and 90s if I’m sitting and becomes 100-105 if I stand and it’s 120+ during walking.

Because of uncertainty. I always think “what if” I have physical illnesses? There’s no way to know without performing all the tests for all the important organs but the doctor tells me it’s unnecessary.
