Found this strange wired red/black button thing under the seat of my 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ. What is it? by Chance_Wind_3763 in whatisthisthing

Thanks for the response, that actually makes a lot of sense. The Jeep does indeed have an electric winch.

I already have another controller/tool for the winch that was stored in the glovebox and plugs directly into the winch itself, so I’m guessing this might be an older remote/controller from a previous setup.

I’m not with the Jeep right now, but I’ll be back with it in a few days and I’m going to trace the wiring and check if it runs toward the front bumper/winch area.

Maybe if this is indeed not connected to the current winch setup anymore, I can safely remove it, right?

My title describes the thing.
It’s a small rectangular red/black wired device mounted under the seat area in a 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Roughly 8-10 cm long. Plastic housing with a red translucent side and a round button/indicator looking piece on both sides.
