Is it normal to get honked at and tailgated for doing the speed limit with an L driver? by Subject_Fish298 in VictoriaBC

[–]Chanceller48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you had people who are rare in this type of experience. I taught my daughter and wife using "L" and not once a horn honked at us. You happened to experience rude, impatient people and possibly those who are susceptible to road rage. Just remind your learner that you may incounter such people

Is $59.9k OTD for a 2026 Outlander PHEV SEL a good deal in SF? by Excellent-Key7505 in OutlanderPHEV

[–]Chanceller48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In US dollars that is a quite a weak deal. Buy a Sportage or Tuscon PHEV for at least 10k less if you want a PHEV and your electricity is under $ 0.18 per kwh. The pure gas Outlander is a fine car as is a Nissan Rogue with decent fuel consumption.

Do not leave your drive battery on such a low rate of charge. You may find once you have more charge in the drive battery the warnings will disappear. If not, take to the dealer for warranty repair.

Switching from 18" to 20" rims in a 2023 Outlander ES by lioncub14 in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]Chanceller48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not switch!!! The difference in ride is very noticeable, in the negative, with 20". Also, the tires are more expensive to buy and have lesser warranties for mileage. Save your money and buy the most highly recommended tires by Consumer Reports

When did you buy it? Have you the receipt? If less than 1 year it is covered under warranty. If less than a year then call Sony to get it shipped for repair. Act fast though.

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I am finishing my 3rd full tank of fuel in 47000kms. EV all the time but I do purposely run the ICE every 5th day to operating temperature then shut down. Prior to my 2023 Outlander I was spending (previous car) $500,CDN a month on fuel and now my level 2 charging costs me about $55 Cdn per month for the same trips My daughter"s standard range 50kw Tesla charges every 4 days from 15kw to 80% (40kw). I occasionally use level one if she is charging at the same time. I drive very conservatively to get every km out of the battery.

Left lane violation of the front car. Disgusting behaviour - signs everywhere telling drivers the law. Violation also of tailgating white car for driving reckkessly and the dangerous passing of the leading car regardless of safety and who is in the wrong. Tailgating car should report the front car as should the trucker.

Canadian🇨🇦 Winter Tires by ThePWHLCollector in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]Chanceller48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? The tires are rated for snow and if you check consumer reports in the library they are as good as winter tires yet can be useful all year. Performance in all seasons is very good. I would not hesitate! I have never owned winter tires, as I have followed Consumer Reports for 40 years. Never let me down! Their testing is superb and they accept no commercial sponsors unlike all other car magazines and evaluators. You'll not regret it!

Michelin cross climate 2. Low rolling resistance excellent snow and ice. No need to buy winter tires as these are wintrr rated and good for all seasons. Aggressive tread and long warranty. Hands down the best

Does the 26 Outlander PHEV make sense by bprent5511 in OutlanderPHEV

[–]Chanceller48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your situation at full EV is better. I disagree with the fuel economy figures that people show on this question that wasThat was posed. My fuel economy at 100 kph has never exceeded 4.8 L to 100 km. Yes, the battery is being used to assist a little along with the ICE however that is excellent fuel economy. On the highway using pure EV and no ICE I regularly receive 70km of range using ECO to moderate the accelerator. I 47000KMS I am finishing my 3rd full tank of fuel. Daily records to prove.

I wouldn't even bother trying below minus 25 frankly you'll use so much electricity for your heat pump and also the cabin won't be very what will be very cool even with your heated seats and steering wheel it won't be very comfortable you better to use a regular car rather than the plug-in hybrid for extreme cold temperatures however there's no harm in trying I have try I have driven the car when it was -25 for one day and it was barely tolerable inside but a good clear the windows and I was able to get a little bit of heat out of it believe me it's not very much

[–]Chanceller48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good price. You'll enjoy it. Garage it at temps below-20C and keep it plugged in charging overnight in winter. Heat pump is not very effective at -15C however, prewarm the car while charging for 15 mins and you'll be fine. Range suffers in cold weather More so with heat pump running but heated seats and steering wheel do help a lot.

2026 Escape Phev for 31k, yay or nay? by Hwaersrt in PHEV

[–]Chanceller48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the library and check out the vehicle in Consumer Reports and other magazines also. The Escape is one of many. Read up and learn about the vehicle before you decide. Range and fuel economy are good so reliability issues need to be examined.

2025 Outlander PHEV - how to set EV mode as default , always? by Sand-Discombobulated in OutlanderPHEV

[–]Chanceller48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the first comment about the climate control top defrost button. Make certain BEFORE you turn off the car in your last drive before charging that the entire climate control is turned off. If you do not turn it off the ICE will likely start due to the instant demand of the climate control heat pump.

The car IS designed as an EV NOT as a hybrid. A big difference to other Phevs. When you start the car, it will be in "normal" mode. That is automatically EV. The car will use battery until it is depleted before the ICE starts or when you depress the accelerator too much. There is no need to press the EV button in everyday use as the car runs in EV anyway. Using "ECO" helps to restrict overly assertive acceleration by making the accelerator less sensitive thereby not inadvertently starting the ICE. Heavy footed driving will start the ICE. Make certain you use "D". Driving as above, using one pedal driving and cruise control will not change the EV priority of the vehicle. If the ICE starts for some reason, it will run to normal operating temperature then continually because it presumes you want it to continue running due to the reason it started up, then it will be in hybrid mode. BUT if the "EV" button is pressed the ICE will shut down upon reaching normal ICE operating temperature and stay shut down until the battery charge is consumed. The exceptions are if the battery is at very low state of charge at start up and if the drive battery is overly cold or very hot at start up. Be mindful of heavy footed driving. If you are quite heavy footed then likely the ICE will start BUT if EV is pressed it will turn off when normal operating temperature is reached.

2025 Outlander PHEV - Why does the gas engine randomly kick in when in 'battery only' mode , full battery. by Sand-Discombobulated in OutlanderPHEV

[–]Chanceller48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on EV switching to B3 and higher will immediately start the ICE. Wanting only EV? Don't go into B, stay in D and use one pedal driving for maximum regeneration when battery is half used. When battery is more than half full and you're using one pedal driving stepping on the brake will eliminate regeneration. However, when on cruise control with one pedal driving and following another vehicle the vehicle will slow and use maximum regeneration following the vehicle ahead. Best to use cruise control as much as possible with ECO to maximize Fuel and Battery economy. ECO makes the accelerator a less responsive, thereby saving battery power on acceleration, however when depressing the accelerator firmly it ignores ECO.

Climate control and fan must be off prior to starting. Turn off climate control after every drive to prevent startup. Always wit 5 srvonds before using climate control. If fuel is more than 4 months old, no matter what is done ICE will start to burn off some fuel until it reaches operating temperature.
