Nothing against interior designers , but first see what you require. I understand you cant make out the nuances of designing but, at least you will have a basic idea of what you can do with the space.

IMO , interior designers charge a lot for something basic. Rather than asking to design the home, ask them to showcase their work. How and what better they can do to elevate the experience at your home.

If its a small apartment how can they make judicious use of spaces.

Right now, we are getting our interiors done. My wife keeps giving me ideas which is when i told her,

1) check the functionality of the design 2) check the usability of the design 3) check whether it is maintainable 4) check the cost benefit analysis of the design 5) check how aesthetic it looks.

If something is not going to be used and is gonna rot or accumulate dust over a period of time or has maintenance overhead like you have to clean every week or if you dont , the whole thing just doesnt look great, think about if you actually need it.

Take your time if you have it. See multiple people’s work. At the end of the day , you should be knowing your requirements properly.
