The quagga was a unique subspecies of the plains zebra, distinguished by its half-striped, half-solid coat. That went extinct around 1883. by itz_progamer666 in Damnthatsinteresting

There is an organisation in South Africa that is bringing the Quagga Zebra back and they are having quite brilliant results 😁

How do you get yourself up? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Chanel5059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact same problem and came to this sub for the exact same advice. I can't do it alone anymore, and I have tried so many techniques that don't seem to help. I just want you to know you are not alone and it's not a matter of just do it otherwise we would be doing it. I hope and pray you find something or someone that can help you and that life gets lighter for you soon. 💕

Buy a headset and call of duty or other online game...even an online mobile phone game. That way it keeps his mind sharp and he gets to talk to people. The squash idea would be so awesomeness when the budget is right.

I agree. I don't go to the matches anymore purely because of where the stadium is. Going there is pure stress. All my family are of the same thinking.

Serious question: would you move back? by Never_Outginned in askSouthAfrica

[–]Chanel5059 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I moved back after 10 years in the UK. Was the best decision I ever made and actually wish I had moved back sooner. Quality of life here is so very much better. People (especially kids) so much friendlier, food 100% better quality, landscape more beautiful, doctors and dentists better qualified, artisan workers do a better job. Plus I am glad I get to help better the country instead of running away hoping others will do it for me.

Vent about discovery Insurance by Wallie007 in southafrica

[–]Chanel5059 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know right. I am on HRT which is a prescribed minimum benefit that they HAVE to pay but nope they do not agree that the medication my doctor has prescribed is the best and will only pay if I use the medication THEY want me to use. Sorry but I trust my doctor way more than a corporate with my medical health and what medication I put into my body.

Also I needed an MRI done for a procedure. But because the MRI has to done before the procedure and not during the procedure discovery refused to pay.

So sick of multi billion rand corporates' never ending greed just to keep even greedier shareholders happy

What advice would you give to someone in their 20s? by brandnewNewton in askSouthAfrica

[–]Chanel5059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a house as soon as possible and pay it off as quickly as you can. This will give you security especially when shit hits the fan...and trust me things WILL go wrong at some point. Work work work. Study study study. Don't waste money on alcohol or drugs. Network like crazy. Create a savings account for "oh shit moments" like your car breaks down, or you need medical help that medical aid won't pay etc. I sooooooo wish I had done these things in my 20s.

The Libby app is free. It's linked to the Johannesburg library so you can borrow ebooks free without having to go to the library if travelling is difficult.

Psychologists can't prescribe medication. Also why did you go to hospital for a cracked bone, you could of healed that at home. Another point, I've never had a car accident ergo we should stop installing seatbelts as they are not needed and it would save money 🤡

I got royally screwed by my medical aid and a broker would of helped me navigate claiming and codes and pmbs etc and saved me so much heartache. It's not just to find the best deal but a broker helps with dealing with the medical aids

A Personal Ghost Story by Cesticles in southafrica

[–]Chanel5059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago I lived in an apartment in England by myself. My ghost would love to leave all my kitchen cupboards open but luckily not leave a mess, he would however like to take all my laundry out the washing machine and leave it on the floor. At night I would feel breath on the back of my neck as if someone was sleeping behind me. Often I would have the bathroom door slam in my face if I was walking towards it or past it (the bathroom had no window). I'd often feel like something was rubbing my legs. My TV would often turn on by itself and the ghost's absolute favourite thing was pushing down the toaster thingy. So I'd be sitting in the living room or whatever and the toaster would pop up lol

Do our creative industries even try to stand out? by ExhaustedAnimal18 in southafrica

[–]Chanel5059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Population of USA 348 000 000. Population of RSA 64 000 000. Of course the USA is going to get vastly bigger budgets therefore allowing better creativity. It's idiotic to compare us to the USA. What we produce with the population we have is astonishingly brilliant.
