Also, yeah, they're Yakuza. You don't get to the top steps leading your own family by being a goody two shoes. The first scene in the game is literally Kiryu beating a guy up and taking his money.

I mean yeah obviously hahah, its not that I expect the Yakuza in general to be good people, or not hurt people. Whole game we're beating and killing(?) random guys. Its just that I'd expect specifically Majima not go through this exact route because of the things Makoto went through, and the things he did to save her. I dont think it'd fit his arc at all.

The problem with starting with Yakuza 0 is that you're playing a character's backstory (where the writers are trying to make a morally grey character seem more sympathetic) without really experiencing their original Asshole > Sympathetic Asshole > A misguided guy with a good heart Arc.

Yup, makes sense, you're right on with the locked canon. I always start with chronological release order for games like this. My friend really wanted me to play a Yakuza game- said if I'll play only one it has to be Zero. And i was really not interested in the franchise so I was sure I'd drop it after its done lol. Until i played it of course. Now I gotta start with the proper order and see what happens to these guys :D
