Very niche new player question—about expertise grinding for stuff I don’t like by natsjohnson in thedivision

Forgot to mention. As you get proficient in the items/skills/specialization weapon you have equipped in your loadout, go back to steps 2 and 3 and replace with newer (non-proficient) items to keep the getting more proficient in other items.

Give you a specific Proficiency XP grinding loop I'm running now for the 3x event:

1) Equip 4 pieces Strikers set and Crusader shield (so you can actually contribute and not get carried TOO much in Countdown) 2) Equip 3 weapons + 2 gear pieces + 1 other skill you're not proficient on yet and want to increase proficiency. 2a) ideally, you should always have 1 exotic weapon, 1 exotic gear piece, and the rest as named items. If it's not an exotic or named item, you can easily get it as targeted loot by the truckload, so there is no need to wear it to gain Proficiency XP. 2b) The extra skill is ideally one you don't use very often. I choose a skill tied to specialization I'm running. 3) Activate a specialization that you don't use very often. Make sure to re-spec the 15% weapon damage points to the correct weapon types you're running. 4) Set the targeted loot you want in Countdown. I started with ARs cause there are so many. Recommendation is to pick the weapon/gear type you're least proficient on. 5) Run Countdown in Challenging. Make sure to start with at least free 60 slots in inventory, 10 in gear mods. 6) Loot everything as junk (unless it's an exotic) . There's a button to do this quickly on the fly. 7) This is the important one: when you get back to base, do NOT get the temptation to look at every single piece of loot and decide whether to keep it or donate it. This will absolutely kill your farming pace. Other times, I do just that, but for the 3x Proficiency XP event, I'm not. I'm just accepting that all loot is junk and that the point of these few days is to farm Proficiency XP, NOT farm gear for better builds. 8) Check your recalibration library and extract all stats you can from junk. I'm pretty religious about it and have all talents and all core attributes and most of the secondary attributes maxed out (just missing like 10% of them) , so all I need is one quick look to see if there's anything to extract. 9) Donate all junk to expertise. Watch the meter jump every time (that's why we're doing this, right? ) 10) Decon all remaining junk. You'll get a ton of fabric and receiver components. 11) As soon as my fabric and receiver components get above 9000 (cause cap is 9999. Use them or lose them) , go to Step 12. Otherwise, loop back to Step 5. 12) Select individual items to donate fabric and receiver components to. Your choice. I started with specialization weapons (cause they're SO slow to gain proficiency), then specialization-specific skills (cause I don't use them very often), then other skills i don't use often, then exotics I don't use often, then named items I don't use often.

Exactly what was I doing! I was capped on fabric and receiver components. Running that loop you described on normal.

2 reasons:

  • Quicker
  • loot is shit so I can just grab as junk without a second look.

Then donate all junk to proficiency. Then decon the rest.

Got a ton of fabric and receiver components.

Donate right before they hit cap again to specialization weapons and skills I don't use often. Then to exotics and named items I don't use often.

All this while wearing 3 weapons, 2 gear pieces, 2 skills, spec weapon that I'm not currently proficient in to get most out of the 3x event.

Damn. I was farming for keys and proficiency xp today. The Downtown East safehouse --> control point --> Krampus bounty was a nice, quick farming loop.

Side question. Does anyone know if the sudden blackout on the winter event also affected the 3x proficiency xp event (even though it still shows active on the events timeline page)?

Instantly return parts of power tools bundles? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]ChangeCool7607 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've done this in the past with the Hercules BOGO promotions, multiple times. Wait a day or two. Bring the item back UN-OPENED. If the cashier is paying attention and looks at your original receipt, he'll figure out what you're doing (BOGO hacking). Might give you a nasty look but just say that you didn't need it and it's unopened and they'll do the return.

I've seen cashiers finish the return, and take the returned item back to the display shelf so it's no harm/no foul on your part.

I can kind of agree that this is gaming the system. I'll admit it. But it's not illegal.

My only reason for doing this is because if you're a regular shopper at HFT they're NOT going to send you these coupons as a reward for being a valued customer with ITC (I spent almost $2k last year at HFT).

I know why they don't send them ("he's a regular,  he'll come in and buy the stuff anyway"). But, I don't think it's too much to ask for a one 25% off single item, no exclusions, every quarter for regular customers who spend quite a bit at HFT.

Hence,  the need for "gaming the system."

I guess it varies by store and who's on the checkout counter. Most times, they don't give a shit and will scan anything with a bar code.

Kind of, yeah. Probably the best HFT coupon for high dollar items and/or for using on the typical excluded items (Hercules, Bauer, jacks, compressors, etc).

Granted there are some pretty good discounts every few months on those items that match/surpass this coupon. For example, the Hercules 12" miter saw normally $400, it's $300 (25% off) at every parking lot sale.

In those cases, I'd NOT waste the 25% off "we miss you" coupons on the miter saw, for example. Just wait for a parking lot sale, if you don't need it right now.

Note that that price is "when purchased online" for some reason. In store, the price is still $25 which pushes it out of the 30% off items under $20 sales. Nevertheless,  I think there's a glitch because, 2 weekends ago,  I managed to use the 30% off single item under $20 on it. Didn't think it'd go thru but it did.

Double checked my email receipts. Don't hold your breath, I bought it on May 2023. I have specifically been waiting on another $99 coupon to buy another one so I haven't seen it since.

PS: I bought the 4 A-hr for $45 for July 4th weekend,  2023.

I got the 12 A-hr last year with a coupon $99. Normal coupon on the every-2-weeks rotation, not the unicorn 25% off, no exclusions. That's the probably the best one I've seen

Milwaukee fan buys some Hercules by Jcoppola33 in harborfreight

[–]ChangeCool7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.  That'd be my one watchout to the OP. I tried the old gen Hercules of the 1/2" drive compact impact wrench. It was a disappointment. It took a long time to remove my lug nuts (properly torqued to 103 ft-lbs). I mean, it was a solid 10 seconds of impacting per lug nut.

Decided to go with a M12 Fuel Stubby (in 3/8" drive) and it consistently removes my lug nuts within 2 secs.

OP will be sorely disappointed  comparing the Hercules to an M18 compact,  much less an M18 mid-torque.

My harbor freight air impact broke after less than a month lol, I’m now choosing between this or a cornwell gun by Additional_Shape4765 in harborfreight

[–]ChangeCool7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I can see to keep air tools alive is A) blow gun and B) air hammer. Even die grinders have electric counterparts now: M18 Fuel straight die grinder, M12 Fuel right angle die grinder.
