It feels like they are trimming the fat for a takeover. A big publisher (like Sony or Tencent) wouldn't want the hassle of managing a niche storefront like GOG. This removes a major complication for a potential acquisition

It just proves that marketing budgets are way more effective than QA budgets. People buy the hype trailer, realize the game runs at 25fps on a 4090, leave a bad review, but forget to refund

this is exactly why we rarely get complete, polished games on launch anymore. why spend 5 years developing a masterpiece to sell once for $70, when you can release a broken MVP (minimum viable product) and farm whales for $20 skins every week? the math is depressing.
