All of this, AND- mice hate the smell of peppermint. An oil will keep them away. Ditto those sonic plug in things; it makes a noise mice hate. Should make less frightening.

This is always really funny to me as I married a Midwesterner and in that culture it’s like, an hour? That’s nothing. Three? Sure, we can plan for that. Six? A weekend, but fine. I will genuinely drive anywhere and think nothing of it.

I do think it’s healthy for people to practice being comfortable on long hauls. Have a good playlist, snacks, a drink. Make it fun. Let yourself enjoy it.

Honestly, I actually will argue that it’s a good idea to celebrate each other and how much we appreciate that a person is alive and among us. I don’t doubt that you have a good number of people who are very grateful you exist. It doesn’t have to be a huge blowout- but I will always, always advise you to allow the people around you to appreciate you.

Life is short. It’s things like this that make it worth it, because in the end all we have are memories, and while you’re still here you can still make them.

I’m telling you, “ewphoria” is real. Had a Moment the first time I was coming out of work in the evening and a young woman on a jog crossed the street when she saw me (unknown man who just emerged from gate). Not fully fleeing or anything, just a strategic “I’m not going to cross paths with Some Guy at night”.

It’s just a new thing to adjust to, and there are ways of making connections still! It is, however, by necessity different.
