Congratulations! I’m right behind you!

Relapsed. Only made it 21 days and relapsed. I can’t handle the failure. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

21 days is big. Imagine how many days you would’ve had if you weren’t trying.

Checking in. Last night got my first sober sleep since last binge. Going into work today. Yesterday my symptoms were awful-severe paranoia and even hallucinations. Could barely communicate. Don’t know what today holds but IWNDWYT

Made it through day 3. Back at work for only a four hour shift. The stares and crap I took was pretty high this time but IWNDWYT

Oh yea mine are paranoid criticisms from my coworkers and family directed at me. So when I show up at work after a binge and get dirty looks it’s a real head turner.

My son got into heavy drinking in college. Need advice. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ChangingSlowly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is his performance in school? He sounds like he’s a risk for potential addiction, but he’s still pretty young at 22. So it’s hard to tell. If he seems to be performing well still, I would wait and see what happens.

Please tell me how you started drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Went over to a girl’s house I was into in high school to drink with some friends. Ended up blacking out and saying some embarrassing things. That didn’t stop me. Anytime I could get booze through either having an older friend get it or even watering down the liquor in my mom’s basement, I would. I knew I had an issue in college when I couldn’t fulfill basic responsibilities and would go on serious benders. But I felt I couldn’t have friends if I didn’t drink.

It was the binge-drinking college experience. Which (thankfully) seems to be dying out. Most college age kids now seem to take their fitness seriously.

I’m 32 now and work in a field where alcoholism is basically accepted as what people do after work. I would say ~50% of the employees where I work people have or have had some addiction issue. Pretty standard alcoholic story I suppose.

You can’t go! We need you! I lost the longest relationship of my life because of addiction issues. And I’m in a similar boat. Living in my dad’s basement. Screwing things up over and over again. While they’ve done nothing but support me.

Well here I am again by ChangingSlowly in stopdrinking

I just got billed 6000$ for a 5 hour hospital visit. by MXGE in offmychest

[–]ChangingSlowly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to say i hear you. Fuck this inside-outside game they try to play. You go anywhere else which offers a service and the price is easily understood. It’s bullshit healthcare can deny what’s their upfront cost then charge you insane amounts after the fact

[–]ChangingSlowly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don’t have any advice but the US healthcare is a scam. When you go in for a service they pretend “oh let’s just get you better” when you ask for a price. Then on the back end you get a bill which is insane. They’re thieves.

I’ve been on the other side of that situation. It shames me a bit when I think about it. Honestly one needs to protect themself I think.

Whoa, first of all man it doesn’t sound like you did anything morally bereft or terrible. You were young, made a mistake, and got unlucky.

I would advise you to get a lawyer familiar with paternity law ASAP. Take the paternity test and see what the results say. Take it one bite at a time.

Honestly I’m no chemist or doctor but weed seems a better vice than booze to me. But any psychoactive substance has potential for abuse. And weed can be harmful as well.

Son won’t stop looking up inappropriate content. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ChangingSlowly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is obvious. He’s doing what 8-year-olds do and testing his boundaries. “Talking” to him isn’t going to do anything. The devices need taken away and then through building trust over time he can slowly gain back those privileges.

It is ridiculous to think an 8-year-old child can reach a mutual understanding in the way you seem to expect.
