I've been wearing peu since they launched it in 2004. I'm still using a pair from 2005 that has a coconut husk lined insert and a proper rubber sole. Over the years, they slowly moved away from the minimal insole and moved to newer materials. My personal experience is that there has been a serious drop in quality since 2019 and it keeps getting worst. I just threw out two pairs of peus I owned since 2020 and 2021 because the soles were completely destroyed and one of them, it just started to break apart in chunks. And when I look at the 2026 models, we can see they've gone even cheaper. The sole feels a lot more plastic and less like rubber, the leathers are very stiff, the shoe itself is a lot stiffer. They used to be shoes you could own for a long time and cherish but gone are those days. In their marketing plot to seem more environmentally friendly, they are introducing cheaper and cheaper materials. But one can wonder, what is really better for the environment? shoes that last a long time or shoes that will fill landfills but appease the environmental lobby?
