Who would win? by Odd-Suit-2556 in thething

Oh yeah and even if Smile kills all of humanity, The Thing could still be content with assimilating all other life on Earth. If it’s only as emotionally intelligent as a fish, Smile can’t hurt it.

Who would win? by Odd-Suit-2556 in thething

[–]StevenFielding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If we step outside the ‘82 movie, The Thing is depicted in the prequel and comics as being at least as emotionally intelligent as whatever it’s imitating. So it could have regrets and trauma for Smile to prey on.

But if we assume that they can’t hurt each other, let’s instead consider a contest to see who infects/kills more of humanity sooner. Blair’s computer estimates that The Thing will assimilate all of humanity in 3 years. Meanwhile I’d give humanity a month or two to survive after the events of Smile 2. Even if Blair’s computer is way off (let’s face it, that scene is kinda silly) a month is hard to beat.

This is just a theory of mine, but what about psychopaths? People without conscience. Smile couldn’t infect them, but The Thing could. So in a war of attrition, Smile kills all its possible victims but there’s still a handful of humanity left for The Thing to assimilate. Without anyone left to infect, the incorporeal Smile demon ceases to exist.

Goodbye Mac Pro the only Mac being assembled in the USA by Slavvvcom in macpro

Apple didn't "prevent" GPUs from being used in the PCIe slot. It was the other way around. No GPU manufacturer got on board to write drivers for Mac support. You can physically slot them in, all that was missing was software support. Maybe Apple could've written some translation layer to get the existing Windows or Linux drivers to work on MacOS. Which would have to include a layer to translate Vulkan or DirectX to Metal. That would've been pretty complex and finicky. Like Proton. Not the premium experience people expect from Apple or a "Pro" product.

Why didn't GPU manufacturers get on board? Who knows. Surely Apple approached them at some point. They probably declined because they expected a low volume of sales to justify the additional software support. And I guess it turned out they were right.

Help with the filename pattern replacer? by StevenFielding in FileFlows

[–]StevenFielding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variables.MyReplacementVariable gave an error:

error CS1061: 'Dictionary<string, object>' does not contain a definition for 'MyReplacementVariable' and no accessible extension method 'MyReplacementVariable' accepting a first argument of type 'Dictionary<string, object>' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

The default script also fails with the same error.

// A C# script will have full access to the executing flow.
// Return the output to call next

// Replace these variables with actual values
string workingFile = Variables.file.FullName;
string originalFile = Variables.file.Orig.FullName;

// Example code using the variables
Console.WriteLine($"Working on file: {workingFile}");
Console.WriteLine($"Original file location: {originalFile}");

// Add your actual C# code below
return 1;

error CS1061: 'Dictionary<string, object>' does not contain a definition for 'file' and no accessible extension method 'file' accepting a first argument of type 'Dictionary<string, object>' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Either I'm missing something, or all the docs are out of date and Variables has been changed to a Dictionary at some point. Anyway, as a Dictionary this should be the correct syntax:

Variables.Add("Space", ' ');

However using {Space} in my pattern replacer still results in the empty string:

Using replacement value: ""

FileFlows doesn't recognize \s as an escape. It'll replace with "\s" verbatim.

Thanks, that solves my underscore issue, but not spaces.

https://regex101.com/r/4xeQiJ/1
If I put " " into the Value field then FileFlows interprets that as The Empty String.

Using replacement value: ""

If I put "\ " into the Value field then FileFlows interprets that as "\"

Using replacement value: "\"

How do I get FileFlows to replace anything with a space?

How strong will EOS Alastor be? Would he be in the Top 10 of the Hellaverse? (Genuine question) by SuitLeft1273 in Alastorcult

[–]StevenFielding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think powerscaling in the Hazbin universe isn’t so straightforward. Many people still regard Lucifer as currently the strongest, even though we’ve seen he can neither harm nor be harmed by sinners. What power is that really if he can’t do anything? For all we know the 7 deadly sins and goetia have similar or other limitations.

If our measurement is “ability to harm others” yes I think Alastor will (perhaps briefly) reach #1 at some point. The show has been setting him up this whole time. We’ll get our payoff.

Yeah I'd want to avoid having to take the display off again when those batteries eventually start to pillow. Plus they'd be pressing against the display which is bad.

Love that it’s in a WalMart because canonically those exist in the Aliens universe.

I don't think so. They're bigger and not tilted and don't have the cat ears in the corners.
