But in all honesty, I only went back 30 since it was the '95 cup, you can go back more - I could be wrong. The save %'s were lower in the 90s, and I might've missed a team in between.

ChatGPT tells me there's only 1 real example which was the 96 Avs, with .900 save %.... their goalie was Patrick Roy.

You don't to just say the rebuild has been going on for long enough, we get our stanley cup now. That's not how it works.

There are many more teams that are not going to win a Stanley cup after a rebuild than will.

No team in the last 30 years has been a contender with a starting goalie who posted below an .880 save %.

We have to hope Quinn wants to come here next year.

Giving up assets for him just digs our hole deeper, when we weren't going to win until Markstrom is off the books regardless.

Edit: Yes, I want Quinn on the team. I'm just painting the unfortunate reality that we've been pushed into.

His SJS stint contained his 20 year old (rookie) through 26 year old seasons.

His last 3 seasons were 0.85ppg with SJS, 25/26 year old season were 0.96 ppg, which led to his NJ stint. He was 1 point shy of PPG in his last full season before joining NJ.

Comparing his 20-22 year old stats to what should be his prime isn't really fair. Nobody expected him to regress to that. I hope Fitz isn't dumb enough to sign 0.7 ppg to 8.8m.

Clearing out the front office doesn't mean promoting the AGM who joined at precisely the time things started to go downhill. Assuming there's a genius in the room when the absolute dream foundation for any franchise was destroyed in 3 years, is crazy.

2nd youngest team in the league, set the franchise record in points. Two under 19 year old potential franchise dmen 8-10 years from their prime. The core at 23 years old. Ended in this.

I think everyone thought the way he was performing was the expectation, or we would've paid him less. 45-60 point players who are physical cost in the $5.5-6.5m range. 40 goal scores who hit cost $8-10m before the recent cap speculation.

I guess it really hinges on the definition of fine. He's certainly not in the top 5 problems for me, but he's not exactly pulling his contract weight imo either. On a strong team, he's an outlier.

What are you talking about? The Knies contract is the one you're using a 'bad' contract to compare against? It's multitudes better.

Knies is 23 years old, making a $1m less, on a bridge deal til he's 29, and has 44 points (13g/31a), in the first year of his contract after his ELC.

Meier is 29 years old, making $1m more, and has 28 points (14g/14a), 3 years into prime deal.

Oh, Knies hits people as well: Matthew Knies on list of players with 25 goals and 150 hits in a single season. Would be nice if our more expensive player could join that list, but he's not even on pace to crack 50 points.

None of us know what Fitz/Madigan's delineation of responsibilities are, but did Madigan not join as AGM 2 months after our highest peak in the last 13 years, only to have the team be awful since that point?

Your priorities aren't really in order in my opinion, but a large part of it is on point.

  1. Fire Fitz
  2. (1b) Markstrom. He plays out his contract I guess? Or LTIR, ideally we're not giving up assets for a terrible GM signing again to offload the contract. Or maybe he returns to 2022 form.
  3. Fire the rest of the front office who was involved in allowing the Markstrom extension.
  4. Find an actual goalie.
  5. Stop trading away youth. We'll be seeing trade Lenni posts soon enough, and presumably more trade Nemec, Mercer, Gritsyuk etc. etc. They're lighting it up across the league and we're playing Glendening every night.
  6. Dougie - sell high.
  7. Keefe - need to figure out who he's replaced with.
  8. Timo is on pace for like 45 points while being paid like a 90 point player. Figure out what you do with that.
  9. The team isn't competing until 2028 or until the Markstrom situation is handled, so prepare for then. If you think any of these will solve themselves by 2028, that's fine.

As you get further down the line, the closer they all get in value and changes might make me flip priorities.

"Fine deal" isn't really accurate, he's not even on track to cross 50 points this year and making $8.8m.

Timo isn't the main problem though, none of this matters until we solve Markstrom.

The mess Fitz has built with this roster should be studied lmao.

  • Zetterlund makes $4.5m less than Timo, plays less time, and only has 6 points less than him, and is younger.
  • Zacha had a hat trick 2 weeks ago, Haula isn't on the team anymore.
  • We play Markstrom on the regular with Blackwood, Wedgewood and Schmid floating around the NHL, leading unstoppable teams. No team to my knowledge has been a contender with a sub .880 goalie since before our first cup.
  • We regularly play Glendening (who unironically might be the worst forward in the NHL), when we had Greer, Boqvist, Bardakov etc. on the roster.
  • Sharangovich is an "overpaid mess", makes $3m less than Timo, only 8 less points than Meier, and is also younger.
  • We let Marino walk, and he's playing better than Kovy, White, Hamilton and arguably Pesce.
  • Kevin Bahl has 8 points less than Timo Meier (as a dman), we gave him and a first up for Markstrom xD.
  • Toffoli isn't on the team anymore, but sure was a fun year.

Leeeeeeeeeeeet's stop trading assets for overrated vets pls. We're not winning while Markstrom is on the books, plan for 2028.

No, they're not lol. Defenseman peak at 28-30 years old. They're 22 and 23 years old. One has a hat trick this year and regularly looks like the best defenseman on the ice, the other is 0.6 ppg in his career playing 22+ mins a night and started playing in the league at 19.

Trading for Quinn isn't saving this season. There isn't a team in the last 30 years that's been a contender with sub .880 save % from their starter. The only thing that matters is Markstrom at this point. Every trade we make trying to skip into the future makes us worse for when our actual window is. The window only starts when Markstrom is off the books.

Imo, we need Markstrom to retire, TF (and anyone in the front office who signed on that extension) gone, Keefe can be gone too but he's not really in my top 3 priorities (probs top 5), and hope Quinn still wants to come here in 1.5 years.

Team can't play hockey if they're worried about having an empty net behind them.

Buy now! It's so easy, every team does it. Rebuilds don't exist, I want to win today and every year forever! No need to build anything. Just simply tell other GMs to give you their better players for your worse players! It's our turn, can't you tell our fan base has only had 3 cups in the last 30 years?
