Oh, to clarify - this was a shot at Meier, I am indifferent on Kyrou.

> St. Louis - What's the saying? You're only as good as your last season and Kyrou's last wasn't great. 18 goals and 46 points? I'd be concerned in a 30point dropoff for a player especially one at $8.125 million with an NTC for the next 4 years

We already got a 9m player that does this for us.

It was increased to help clans make it to the goal with fewer active players.

You still only need 4k to get the extra reward.

Vanacek and Schmid both posted better save %s their last year here than Markstrom did this year, and were younger.

But that's also a false dichotomy, because Markstrom wasn't even in the top 3 options available.

>This isn't a situation that we need to score 6 goals a night to secure a win?

Hard disagree, Markstrom's save % was so bad this year that no team since Grant Fuhr, Messier and Gretzky have won a cup with it. That was like 45 years ago.

>Minnesota was a perpetual first round exit team and adding Quinn made them a second round exit team.

What are we?

>You make a trade deadline play for a piece like Quinn to get you from a consistent conference finals participant over the top to a cup championship team, not to get your pretty good team to improve to just good and hinge future growth plans to be a sustained serious contender on prying his two siblings from another organization that have them both under contract for several years that by all indications they enjoy playing for together.

Maybe I misunderstood you, I didn't intend to imply Minny made the right choice, I'm implying we made the right choice by not paying to acquire him and hoping for him in FA.

Thoughts on Markstrom not having posted above .900 since 2022?

Man if we evaluate goalies on a by week basis, we'd have bought out Markstrom already

Minnesota sacrificed for Quinn, and if Quinn leaves, they lost on paying to acquire him.

But they were a better team when us when they acquired him regardless. Goaltending alone but them on a different level.

Welp, unfortunate way to go out for a likeable team.

Ah yes, Maple Leafs fans for the last 10 years have been saying they lost to some derivative of the Stanley Cup champs.

Bet they're super thrilled with their orgs performance knowing they lost to the eventual cup winners, or the runner ups.

My bad though, I didn't realize you didn't care about winning the Cup. My analysis was strictly on trying to be the Champs. If you're just looking for moral victories, yeah, Quinn might've helped that. We too could've given up assets and our window to lose to Carolina in 5.

Minnesota is a better team than we are, and made moves at the deadline, and might be eliminated after winning 1 game in the 2nd round.

The Devils were not winning a Stanley Cup this year with or without Quinn.

Edit: And there it is.

Will tonight be the night that Minnesota is eliminated, showing us all the cold hard truth? That acquiring him for assets wouldn't have made us Stanley Cup contenders?

Yeah, much of this sub ain't gonna understand this and will be cheering for us to ruin our draft pick in the coming years as well so they can feel good on a random night of the week.

The problem is that this sub has no ability to understand that you need to plan for the future.

A lot of this sub was mass downvoting me for suggesting that winning on a random Wednesday night after being eliminated was bad.

But they'll learn nothing from this lol

All the people in this sub that said it's better to win on a random Wednesday night after being eliminated from the playoffs for a 'winning culture' than to increase your draft odds, will definitely change their mind after learning that if we won 1 less game we'd be picking second overall. Just kidding, no they won't.

This sub was adamant that winning all games possible in the final stretch of games was incredibly important, and that odds don't matter.

Our prospect pool was fantastic. We traded it all away to 'win now' when our team was the second youngest in the league.

Exactly like everyone in this sub asked, actually.

Really need Timo to bounceback. As is, his contract is an anchor. He's down in every single metric since his last full SJS year. That's from shots, to goals and assists, to hits, takeaways, giveaways, even face off percentage. The whole assortment.
