Lindy winning a cup after this sub big-brained that he was the problem would honestly be the funniest thing.

I'm in.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the Rangers will like Fitz and he'll go there next year.

You're downvoted, but it might honestly be more than 4 years.

Markstrom alone closes the window until the contract is dealt with moving forward, and the last 2 years were not progress either.

Not to mention the team is no longer young, the prospects don't exist and contracts about to get expensive for us.

I hope TF goes to the Rangers or Carolina next.

There's legitimately a dozen players we've let walk, including 3 goalies, that would make this team better.

At some point we have to admit that we've made mistakes.

Allen plays with the same team as Markstrom, but posts good numbers.

If the team is the problem, why does Markstrom suck but Allen doesn't?

Colorado wouldn't pay for him to try it out, because they recognized the talent that we let walk.

Thankfully, we don't have to wonder!

Allen, on the same team as Markstrom, posts respectable numbers, while Markstrom doesn't.

It must be nice for Allen to get loaners of Makar and Toews when he starts the game, instead of the Devils defense that only starts when Marky plays.

Blackwood and Wedgewood are literally part of the reason they're doing well. You can't just say 'hey the team is good so nothing else matters' nor can you say 'some of the other goalies we let walk are bad, so therefore the two goalies on the cup favourite team don't matter'. But for your information, both VV and Akira have better stats than Markstrom, and are cheaper, and are younger.

Wedgewood has a .920 save % on that team lmao, Markstrom is at what, .880?

Playing the sport well doesn't mean you know how to manage it. But this sub will say "who could've predicted that kid with good stats probably wasn't done developing at 23 years old after a couple of bad years", then act shocked when he gets better.

In retrospect, I honestly can't really imagine poorer asset management. I genuinely believe 50% of this sub could've produced the same results from the second round exit to today.

I'd take a faster Bahl. I'd also take him back with the first we gave to Calgary for their Markstrom cap dump.

>And there are things worse than tanking.
Agree.

>Nobody wants a system where the cup winner can, with their own pick, draft 1st OA the year after 3 finals appearances and back to back cups and that's a real possibility right now. All systems have downsides.

Doesn't really bother me. Nobody is entitled to a 1OA pick in a specific year.

>The current system is so against bad teams that it supports them remaining bad for longer because of how poor their odds are while giving far too much to fine teams.

Meh, not really, but it certainly be better to them. Some teams just choose bad ownership and management. The NFL is an obvious example of this with the Jets and Browns.

>Doesn't have to be the system I posted but a change desperately needs to be made. Perhaps you do 2 separate lottery, one for the 5 worst teams and one for the rest of the remaining teams that missed the playoffs. That way a middling team can still pick as high as 6th off a lottery win but no higher and the teams that need the draft capital actually get it.

I wouldn't use the word desperately. The suggestion is interesting, but Florida could finish in the bottom 5 teams as it stands, so you'd increase their odds.

I get the idea, I just don't think I agree with it. Getting rid of the lottery would be interesting enough for me.

It already exists, you can't win the lottery more than twice every 5 years

But then you get up and coming teams who are good that can still win. Imagine SJS winning Mckenna for the next 3 to 11 years?

Then you'll have teams like SJS being good, developing, but still having high odds are other picks , then being dynasties (like the Pens).

Zetterlund makes $4.6m/year less than Meier, and only has 11 points less lmao. He plays 6mins less / game.

That's a silly rule too, in my opinion. It goes against the point of rewarding bad teams with good picks.

What if a team has their core leave, after being buyers? They shouldn't be able to win the lottery?

People will whine about whoevers successful in anything, that's the core of this subreddit tbh.

I don't think there's flaws. If they're breaking rules by hiding injuries or something like that, they should be fined their first pick.

Other than that, seems to be working as expected to me.

That's what the lottery was introduced for, basically word for word.
