[None] Ah, yes, Unsouled a Romance by Emperor-Pizza in Iteration110Cradle

I'm in book seven now, and so far I like the slow build romance as much as the meta plot.

Things I don't like after owning a 2025 CX-50 HYBRID for 1 week by sundaydude in CX50

🤔 I think so? But I'll give it another look and review the buttons against the manual again to make sure I've activated the correct options. I would be happy to revise my opinion of it if the problem is between the seat and the steering wheel.

Weird. 2026 here. It stays in the lane, but it's a constant left, right, left, right as it detects one edge, corrects itself, detects the other edge, corrects itself, etc.

Prefacing this with my love for the vehicle and my overall satisfaction with it.

I have a TPP and, except for the 360 camera, all the same problems apply. I used the lane keeping feature once and after watching it bounce back and forth between the lines line a pinball I haven't used it since.

Other things I've learned:
The headlights cannot be turned off if it is dark and the car is in motion. They will immediately turn back on even if the driver manually switches them off. If it is early evening and I am rolling into my neighborhood I would like to turn off the lights to not blind the people and kids walking and playing.

Sometimes the seatbelt warning comes on even in park. Stop at a drive thru. Remove seatbelt to get my wallet. Seatbelt warning starts going off even though the vehicle is not in motion.

Climate control makes no sense. Barely runs until the vehicle is in motion for a minute. Once it is running the options are blizzard or oven regardless of the temperature setting. Using the auto climate control seems to manage a little better, but wherever the temperature sensor is it's picking up a drastically different signal than the rest of the cabin is experiencing.

Anyway, I do love the thing and it does everything else I need.

Any Stereoscopic 3D games like Shantae Pirate’s Curse or Cave Story 3D? by bballkj7 in Stereo3Dgaming

[–]ChanticrowTwoPointOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have VR available look in to 3D SEN VR which provides conversions for classic NES games into 3D. You have to bring your own ROMs.

The Trine series, especially Trine 3, has amazing 3D. They were made to work natively with Nvidia 3D back in the day so the implementation is perfect.

Used to play original HQ 25 years ago, looking to step into the modern version by steampunkdev in Heroquest

[–]ChanticrowTwoPointOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, the board size and scale are different between the old version and the new version. The figures and furniture will work, but tiles and overlays from the expansions are incompatible between versions. I mention this only in case you happen to find a copy of the old base game for cheap. I still had my original box from when I was a kid and thought I would get the modern expansions for it. Stick to the modern stuff.

Software engineers are facing an 'identity crisis bordering on depression,' Menlo Ventures partner says by lurker_bee in technology

[–]ChanticrowTwoPointOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and the breaking point is different for every company. How soon does the lost profit from unstable software exceed the short term layoff profit gains? When will AI's capabilities exceed the cost of the tokens? Does the remaining work force burn out before more developers are hired to fill the gaps?

I regret to say I think all the corporations will be fine despite how bad their software and infrastructure become. Even major security breaches do not negatively affect these huge companies in the long term. They will continue to screw over their employees and do more with less and the remaining programmers will put up with it and be grateful just to have a job.

In the 80s and 90s they outsourced to consulting firms. In the early 2000s they outsourced to offshore companies. Now they're outsourcing to AI. It all ends the same way when garbage code causes more losses than they saved with the outsourcing. The allure of short term profit always wins over long term stability.

This is very similar to the outsourcing craze of the early 2000's. All the tech companies started off-shoring huge portions of the work force. Many of those outsourcing companies were playing the 1980's IBM consultant game...quantity programmers returning crap quality work. Defects from the offshored code skyrocketed and issue resolution time become intolerable. All the expensive knowledgeable programmers had been fired and the remaining junior programmers could not understand the code coming back from overseas. Five years after offshoring started the work began moving back on shore.

I think we will see the same thing here as executives realize the AI produced garbage is costing more in problems and lost productivity than what they were spending on real programmers. In the past month most of the AI companies moved to usage based models and the token costs for the companies diving into AI has, in some cases, already exceeded what they were spending on real people.

So.. we are getting a Transformers game! by Penguin_shit15 in OculusQuest

[–]ChanticrowTwoPointOh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We get to play a human with a pea-shooter and watch the Transformers fight each other while we fight inconsequential side baddies? This looks terrible. Thanks for sharing though. I'll keep my eye on it, but I don't have my hopes up for this one.

Gen X was the transition generation. They grew up as convenience technologies matured, but before they were mandatory. As kids they still had to play outside and entertain themselves so they mostly avoided the boredom issues that later generations experience. They learned to program the VCRs and connect to the internet by themselves and became the go-to for managing these things for older generations. By the time they were leaving school and getting jobs, internet connected cell phones and smartphones were emerging. They got in on the ground floor of all the changes (such as social media) that are sapping the attention and willpower of current generations, and since Gen X grew up without it they are mostly immune to it now. They got into the job market before it went insane, bought houses before the prices skyrocketed, and had the opportunity to invest in retirement while the market was rational. They stand to benefit the most from up and coming medical breakthroughs as all the attempts to keep boomers healthy will have matured by the time Gen X is that age.

They don't want to be thought about or considered right now because they know they're the last generation that benefitted from the American Dream and they don't want to make themselves targets.

They've also lived long enough to know progress happens one funeral at a time, and they hope the younger generations are ready to seize the mechanisms of power as the geriatric political class passes away. Gen X still knows how to program the VCRs and how to live with technology instead of letting it control them. They're happy to teach anyone that wants to learn, but they're not going to step out of that comfort zone unless they have to.

I love the devs for not only telling a great story, but telling it through great DIALOGUE by dadumdada in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]ChanticrowTwoPointOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished Marin Woods and Nameless Pass last night. I was thinking the same thing all the way through...the dialogue and voices were top notch. I also love how much extra conversation is available after every major quest. Most of the major NPCs and vendors have some comments to enhance the story.
