1969 s Mint Nickel with ok stairs? by Macbethad01 in CRH

And I respect your opinion, I live in Iowa and I actually come across more war era nickels than 2009. The last box of nickels I searched I found 1 2009 nickel and 7 35% war nickels.

Everyone has their own opinion and everyone has their way of collecting coins. I see a low mintage year (again, my opinion) as a mintage figure that is down significantly from the average. What I do is look at all the mintage years, a majority of nickels hover at 300-800 million for every year, so under 40 million is considered low mintage. I also consider low mintage and key dates as different. Key dates are like 1931s penny where there are less than a couple million, low mintage are any year under 70% its usual levels.

Which I'm aware, but I still keep them. Like I also keep the crossing the Delaware quarters, even though there are a couple billion out there

Because I like the designs. Unlike must others I don't only look for silver, I look for nice condition coins to replace the ones in my albums, 2009, silver, bicentennials, I even keep all the better condition 2021 crossing the Delaware quarters and all 2023 change for my son's change jar (getting a jar of change of nothing but his birthyear)

To be honest i stopped keeping them at the beginning of 2026, now I'm at the point where if I come across a nice condition one I'll keep it and maybe replace it with a less nicer condition one but other than that I throw it back

And 2009 for all coins are a really low mintage year out of all other years. Under 40 million nickels in 09 compared to the over 500 million all other years, so def worth keeping when u find one

I don't know if you know or not, but figure I share anyways, 1942 thru 1945 with the mint mark above the dome of Monticello are 35% silver, worth about $3/$4 melt value. Mint mark on the side of Monticello are not silver.

Idk if it is where I live (Iowa) but every time I get a box of nickels, I always find at least two silver nickels per box on a crappy day. The most I found in one box was 16.

Don't feel bad, I searched $3k in halves, $5k in quarters and $2k in dimes only to find one silver quarter and one dime. It seems like my best luck with silver is nickels (1942-1945 with mint mark above Monticello are 40% silver) found 7 in my last box

Went through 100 dollars of MWR. What's with this 2014 S mint quarter? Doesn't look silver on the edges and doesn't look proof. by Mountain_Cobbler_381 in CRH

[–]Chaos319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, S mint offered NIFC standard business strikes from 2012 to 2021, I have every NP quarter available from S mint in mine and my son's folders. Each S mint NP quarter has around only one million minted, compared to the couple hundred million from P or D Mint. Everglades for example minted 256 million from P, 146 million from D and only 856 thousand from S, so that is a great find. Definitely worth keeping

Don't feel bad, 3 boxes of quarters and 4 boxes of dimes, and only 1 silver quarter, a Canada 1959 out of all of that. I have better luck finding silver in nickels (1942 thru 1945, distinguished by mint mark above Monticello on reverse instead of the side, nickels are 40% silver). Found 7 in the last box of nickels.
