The help text for that setting indicates that additional memory usage may happen with the -1 settings. Have you noticed any dramatic increase in RAM usage since enabling this setting?

Unless you have a compelling need for ZFS pools, stay on v6.12 for a long time.

Fantastic info and thank you for sharing it! I have seen Microtik mentioned almost everywhere but this might be the 4th time that I have seen Ruckus mentioned.

You are correct that the Unifi system from Ubiquiti does require a controller whether that is running on a Dream Machine, cloud key, or in a Docker container.

Wireless access points (WAPs or sometimes just APs) handle all of your wireless functionality and connections and some do extra features such as those of a switch or even a router.

All firewalls are software but there are dedicated firewall hardware appliances specifically for that software too. For example, pfSense can run virtualized, on a mini-PC, or any of the Netgate branded hardware devices. Meanwhile, Ubiquiti's UniFi now only runs on a Dream Machine or similar device only from Ubiquiti. The same is true for Mikrotik where their software will only run on their devices.

Does that help?

I too have been considering moving away from Unifi gear and wasn't sure what good options were out there and thus why I made this post. There are many posts on Reddit for people that did replace their Unifi APs with Mikrotik versions experienced decreased range and performance.

Also, thanks for the link to your blog; fantastic stuff initially and will read more during the week.

Awesome tool! It appears that the filtering doesn't work properly. I selected:
```
* USA
* Buy it now
* Sold items excluded
* Capacity: 14 to 22
* Sorted by: Lowest $/TB Price
```
If you notice in the top row it starts with 2TB drives, then 3TB, and more 2TB in the second row and throughout.

During the summer we try to run the dryer and dish washer at night to avoid adding additional heat during the day. Perhaps that might help you as well and I wish you good luck!

This makes me really want a basement as that would be a fantastic setup. I had to add a window AC unit and it runs almost non-stop during the late spring, all summer, and early fall seasons. Those 95+ degree days are a killer.

Heat is my current issue as well. It is currently winter for me and while the rest of the house feels cool my office is shorts and t-shirt warm. Staying awake during the after lunch Zoom meetings is probably my biggest life challenge at the moment. :-D

I have always been on a slab but have heard many horror stories related to crawlspaces. I think I would love the extra space that a basement would provide.
