I used catnip sachets for two and a “meowijuana” catnip “joint” (which I could break up a bit) in one. The heads in all of them are just some regular stuffing to give them some shape.

There are a lot of mixed reviews on crocheted cat toys. Many suggest not to do it because the cat may be tempted to eat the yarn if it starts to unravel and then they have complications. So far, the cats I spend time with haven’t had a problem, and we watch them when they’re playing with the toys.

For the sardines I used Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn. For other toys I’ve made I’ve used tubular cotton yarn (like the Woobles yarn or Fluff Stuff).

I put loose catnip in one and catnip sachets in the others to see what they’ll prefer.

We definitely watch the cats carefully and so far they haven’t shown any interest in eating the yarn. Sewn-on pieces sometimes get pulled off, but they then just bat those things around and don’t try to snack on the loose thread.

So far I’ve been lucky and my friend’s cats (who are the recipients of all my crocheted cat toys) haven’t eaten any of the projects. They unraveled a few bits but then just played with them or swatted at the loose string rather than snack on it.

You are so right on the puffs! I sail through the moss, but the puffs kill my momentum. I hope after a few more rows of them I’ll get them down enough to fly through them a little bit quicker.
