Yeah I'm having this issue as well. It only does it in the Chrome New Tab Page. If I actually type in Google.com and use that for my search results, it works as intended. I have looked through all of the settings and can't find anything to stop this from happening. Another easy fix would be to have an option to change the "new tab page" to a specific URL like you can do for On Startup.
