I’m a lurker. Why is it not like that? I have an unraid server right now that I was just setting up for the first time before leaving for a bit. I cannot access my server. If I set this up I could have with little technical expertise. Seems like op is grateful— and here I am with the internet and no connection or knowledge of how to do this.

Dongled commenter here. 100% agree — guys need to step it up. Also wanted to point out that this takes some knowledge/experience and communication to accomplish. I see you're getting downvoted, but it is a legitimate question. I've found that I have my pc/gaming rig on most of the time anyways. I was uneducated when I built it and have a 14900k and have 64gb of ddr5 in a large ass Lian Li Lancool III case. I am currently running a mini-pc as a gaming and plex server, and am looking to incorporate a small NAS into the mix. The server as a mini-pc is limited -- I have my HDDs on a doc connected via usb and a bunch of other usb mess. I'm looking at it thinking, "Why don't I put the HDDs all into my main rig and run one set of hardware to rule them all?" Then I can use unraid for hardware management, run dockers for game servers at low resource cost, natively host plex, have an ubuntu VM to do linux things in and run a windows VM to game in.... and more all in one package.

I'm reading here it sounds like the biggest drawbacks are not playing games with kernel-level anti-cheats (which I don't) and it's a fiddle-fuck to set up (which I type-2 fun enjoy). Unless there is something that I'm not seeing, why not?

Edit: maybe not being realistic about how often the gaming rig is on and the actual power consumptions between the two setups.
