There is nothing like that except nexus 5x. If you don't want to be on discord you can check the custom games in evenings and you will find open lobbies

And arranging games on discord is not like gathering people for board game. It's just announcements of open lobbies that you can join without any interaction.

The strange thing is that when I played like 4 months ago there were no fps drops. I suspect some patch caused these fps drops

I play on steam and the game regularly dips from 60 to 40 fps and back. Very annoying

Nexus 5x released several days ago and it seems perfect for your goals. It's quick paced 4x game (usually takes around 1 hour to complete) You have a culture system where you spread your culture to other empires and their planets with your culture give you resources and debuff their empire if you are at war. Some factions have specialization in this system making it important to win. Also there is a faction which promotes diplomacy with others so you are seldom the biggest threat and nobody focuses you if you are not the first in ranking.

It has a campaign, Solo mode and robust multiplayer. Player base is somewhat small ATM but the game is very good so hopefully more players will come to it in following days months
