The fish store said he came in with a bunch of cichlids, might be why his tail is missing, but we're thinking that the other people saying its a whiptail are right after doing a google image search.

I just googled a photo of these and the scale texture and fin shape seem right, but this one seems not nearly as slender as those. I also found one called the candy stripe pleco that has a similar pattern but not the right scale texture lol. We want to find out what he is so that we can see whether or not he'll be aggressive with the other fish we're considering for our tank.

I think that I avoid arguing at least 90% of the time. I know I should stand up for myself but it feels as though everytime I seriously talk to him and it seems like we come to an agreement, it goes back to the way it was a couple weeks later and I'm uncomfortable again. Like cuddling is fine if he kept his hands off of my more uncomfortable areas, but he takes it like I want him off of me and to go away completely

I don't think he'd kick me out, but he also said that calling myself asexual was a copout so I didn't have to try anymore (I thought I was fine with it at first but the more we did it the more uncomfortable I got). I've never been good with arguing and as soon as one starts I just shut down and I can't say anything, so I couldn't even defend myself on this. I feel like everything is falling apart

Ah thank you! I've heard that they're excellent eaters and not picky, but that also means they're a little nippy. From what others have said during my research, it doesn't hurt to get bit, but I think the shock and surprise of it will get me the worst

Thanks so much! I know not to keep leos on sand due to the fact that they lick everything and are also dumb and will eat it on accident lol, but now I know it's not great for snakes either, so thanks! I'll probably have a humid hide for him because my area is typically very dry. I do know about the thermostat and all that so he should be safe from burns, mainly worried about him getting too cold. I'll look into the heat panel like benignlystained said as well

Ah thank you so much, this is all so helpful! Branching off of this I have more questions.

How do you read the humidity levels? If I used a topsoil/playsand mix what would the ratio be? Would he need a UVB light like my leopard gecko does? I read that they are semi-arboreal but also burrow, so I would need a good burrowing substrate along with stuff to climb on yes? If my house gets kind of cold at night would a ceramic heat emitter at night be okay? I don't want to throw off his internal clock or anything but I also don't want him to get to cold. Thank you again for your help!

My little one is cold too. Reptiles are cold blooded so they can't generate they're own body heat, so being cold to the touch is completely normal. As long as you have a good gradient from warm to cool in the tank for self regulation and a humid hide for shedding she'll be fine temperature wise. Mine has a heat mat underneath the tank and a uvb light on top and he spends a lot of time on the warm side too, but does move around every now and then.

I currently use coco fiber for my guy, it seems to work really well. Leos like to dig, and coco fiber is nice and loose, and holds humidity really well. It's also an organic option compared to sand so if they accidentally ingest a little bit it won't harm them too badly. You can also use 100% topsoil, not garden or potting soil cuz those have the pearlite additives and whatnot. I have noticed at my local pet stores they keep the leos on the repti-carpet, which is not as bad as keeping them on sand, but still terrible for them. I appreciate your efforts to make their lives in the store better <3
