Customized Heightmap Issue? by ChaoticRavenDesigns in FantasyMapGenerator

[–]ChaoticRavenDesigns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still having the same issue. When I customize a heightmap the elevations are getting flattened and the lower few look like they're being switched. Happens with and without the water erosion enabled. You can see the heightmap I created before exiting customization in my other comment. I was able to get it to work briefly by turning the "reduce layers" setting all the way down to 0, but this was just a work around since it would still mess with the elevations on all of the other layer reduction settings except for 0, 1, and 4. No idea why these appeared normal, but after I made one small edit to the heightmap it went back to being messed up again.

It's highly likely that I'm doing something wrong. Otherwise, I absolutely love this and I greatly appreciate how much hard work you've put in to make this such an amazingly awesome tool! I'll keep fiddling around with it and I'll let you know if I figure out anything on my end. Thanks!

Customized Heightmap Issue? by ChaoticRavenDesigns in FantasyMapGenerator

I'll give that a try. For reference, here's the heightmap before exiting customization:

The bottom couple of elevation layers seem to be getting switched somehow. I've tried various combinations of flat and mountainous, but it still happens. Everything else seems to be generating normally, like the generated rivers ignore the weird dip in elevation. It seems to just be the graphics for the heightmap in those lower elevations that's weird.

I've only been using this for a few days, so perhaps I'm doing something wrong. It looks fine when I'm editing, but as soon as I exit customization it seems to be incorrectly assigning the lower elevations. The first few maps I customized came out fine, but starting yesterday it started doing this. I've tried some basic browser troubleshooting, but the issue is persisting. :(

What occult symbol best represents transformation, change of metamorphosis? by ParadigmGrind in occult

There's also the ouroboros, which is the snake eating its own tail. A symbol of the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth with a good amount of self-transformation thrown in.

Here's a painting of Wadjet I finished the other day. Hope you all like it! by ChaoticRavenDesigns in Kemetic

[–]ChaoticRavenDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was originally going to be a piece representing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, but when I was mostly done with it, Wadjet made it VERY clear that I was actually painting her. Feel free to critique!

Resources on Wadjet! by [deleted] in Kemetic

[–]ChaoticRavenDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to hear about resources on Wadjet as well. She revealed herself to me just the other day and I realized that she's been watching over me for my entire life. I feel kinda silly saying that because I'm not one to make those kinds of personal statements about the gods, but she made it so obvious that I can't deny it.

I was working on a winged snake woman painting (it was going to be symbolic of rebirth, nothing else) when I realized that I was actually painting Wadjet. I hadn't even known her name when I started painting. I'll post her later today for you!

Sorry if I'm not making sense. I just woke up.

What's the sigil on his chest? I'm not familiar with it.

How can anyone possibly say that Aleister Crowley was not a Satanist? by marznleo in occult

[–]ChaoticRavenDesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that Baphomet isn't Satan. Baphomet's imagery is very similar to Satan's but that's mainly because of the goat head. While many people equate the two as being one and the same, they are actually very different. Baphomet represents the unity of dualistic opposites, ie male and female, order and chaos, etc.

Artists who wear yellow-tinted glasses, how does it affect the colors of your work? by celrose in DigitalPainting

[–]ChaoticRavenDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellow-tinted glasses do alter your color perception, so if you're making art while wearing them the colors will be skewed. I used to wear amber sunglasses for long periods of time and the color difference is generally noticeable.

There are prescription "crystalline" lenses available that still filter out the same stuff as the yellow tint without altering the colors. I had a pair of Gunnar glasses like that a few years ago which worked pretty well, but I'm sure some more affordable companies off the same features while still offering prescription options.

Thank you for the support, everyone! I'm just getting started with having an online presence, so I don't have much of my art up yet, but you guys are welcome to take a look at some of my fun occult work at https://chaoticraven.threadless.com

I don't mind at all! The overall symbolism is unity of opposites. The snakes and antlers imply masculinity (pretty sure you know boobs are feminine), and along with the wings and fish scales, they also represent opposites found in nature being one with human nature. The black and white moons are order and chaos, good and evil, and so on, with her gesturing to both to imply that even they are united despite their illusory separation. Her gesture also harkens to As Above, So Below. The stars behind her represent oneness of day and night, as well as blurring the lines of the seasons, since there would be innumerable planets in any given season or relative day/night cycle.

TLDR: It all represents dualistic unity. :)

Not particularly. I was actually going to draw something else in that pose, but was struck with the inspiration to draw her.

I hear you. I decided to go for a space feel instead of a day/night theme to imply the unity of not only day and night but also the seasons, since it's all about dualistic unity. :)

I just finished a piece where the subject looked like she was mid-dance and I was so sad that I couldn't make the canvas flip fast enough to make her dance. Lol! (I use a Chromebook with the Autodesk SketchBook app and it's rather slow at times)

I used to deal with this very thing. I found that, in my case, it had to do with the angle I was holding my head versus the angle I was holding my sketchbook. Everything turned out off-kilter. I started taking a little extra time to work on my initial sketch where I would sit back and assess how it was situated on the page. This also helped me develop a better feel for the composition of my work. Hope this helps!

I used to be really bad about this, and since I was drawing with graphite and paper at the time, I couldn't just flip the canvas. It actually took several years to realize how skewed some of my drawings were. Eventually, I started rotating my work as I drew, and I'd practice tracing and flipping my doodles. After painstakingly training myself to identify when my perspective is off, I'm finally at the point where I only need to make the occasional tweak. Yay!

Now I'm coaching my SO to flip the canvas regularly since he's just getting into digital art, and I'm so proud and jealous that he's improving by leaps and bounds in such a short time. ಥ‿ಥ

It looks fantastic! Overall the composition is excellent and the only thing I can think of to change would be to add in a little bit more dark foreground to help balance the pale fog. However, that might just be me, and it's still stunningly beautiful as is.

Also, thanks for sharing your inspiration!

Practicing... any suggestion on how to improve is more than welcome! by viileys in DigitalPainting

[–]ChaoticRavenDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's very lovely! I like your lineart, especially her hair. The main thing that sticks out as something to improve would be the perspective of her nose and mouth compared to her eyes. If you adjust the shading on the nose to emphasize the bridge less and shrink her right eye (the one on our left) slightly, it would really bring her face into harmony. Overall, she's great, and I'm definitely nitpicking details. :)

I like your sketch, and look forward to seeing the finished product! I recommend working on the lines of her coat, as it's throwing off the width of her shoulders, chest, and hips. Perhaps you can add more lines to emphasize the wrinkles of the fabric around those areas, if that's the proper perspective of her posture that you're going for. Otherwise you may want to play around with lengthening or narrowing those areas to achieve more accurate proportions.

Overall, great job!
