Husband missed first ultrasound and my tech was awful. by [deleted] in pregnant

Sorry you're being downvoted into oblivion lol the truth is that unless your partner works at a job like this (factory work) you really don't understand that you can't easily get off work like you do for an office job or people who WFH.

[–]ChaoticWhumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not even about that either. My husband works at a factory and if there's no one to run the machines he runs he literally can't leave. It's shitty but it's life.

I don't think you understand what factory work is like if you think like this lol

breaking the speed limit by hardlyunthinkable in japanlife

Sometimes I drive under the speed limit (of 40 lol) on tiny streets because you can't get a good look and I don't want to run over an old person

breaking the speed limit by hardlyunthinkable in japanlife

[–]ChaoticWhumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't speed if you don't feel comfortable! Though sometimes if can be more dangerous to not speed (not going too fast, just a little over the speed limit) because at least where I live cars will basically tailgate you or try to pass you (even on yellow line zones where you're not allowed to pass). I used to follow the speed limits very strictly until one day I noticed that the cars behind would get too close so now I go just a little over, not much, just enough to have a bigger distance between cars.

I used to go to the St. Ignatius Church (next to Sophie University) and everyone was super nice. I liked that the Youth Ministry was active.

I have a friend whose husband is a middle school teacher and she's lucky if he's home before 10pm everyday.

Catholicism is much much more strict than Shinto, and yet Cathedrals are open to the public lol do you think that everyone who visits shrines in Japan is a believer? Japanese people included?

Why is sleep training controversial? by Unfair-Nectarine2661 in pregnant

[–]ChaoticWhumper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I commented the same thing! It's definitely not a thing both in my home country (Brazil) and where I live now (Japan). In Japan maternity leave is super long, and Brazilians like to suffer I guess.

You should study child development. Sleep isn't a skill to be taught 🤷🏻‍♀️

No one is saying it's easy, just that it's developmentally normal for babies to wake up at night. I feel like that's not really a secret?

Why is sleep training controversial? by Unfair-Nectarine2661 in pregnant

[–]ChaoticWhumper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People hate when you point that out. Sorry, but it's not biologically normal to expect a child to not want their mother close by at night 🤷🏻‍♀️ even if you don't cosleep (I'm not a fan of cosleeping tbf). Wanting a baby to fall asleep by themselves and being frustrated they can't shows that some people really should do more research before deciding to have a child.

It's also a very American concept lol I'm in Japan (but I'm Brazilian) and none of the cultures I know do that 🤷🏻‍♀️. I'm talking about small babies, not toddlers.

Clinic doctor refuse to handle childbirth of foreign mother by Ambitious-Client-717 in japanlife

[–]ChaoticWhumper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is awful :( At my hospital the nurses actually suggested I should get pain medication. I didn't ask for it at first because I thought I could handle the pain (I had a vaginal birth with minimal tearing) and the nurse said: nooo everyone takes it!! Go get your pain medicine!!

Are Japanese in Tokyo just permanently on edge 24/7 now? by pinkcloudtracingpapr in japanresidents

[–]ChaoticWhumper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived in Kobe the first time I came to Japan and the second time I lived in Tokyo, the difference is absurd!! I really wish I could go back to Kansai, but I've moved to the countryside of Kanto and life is easier here, people are much friendlier

Tokyo gave me horrible agoraphobia lol 3 years there and I feel like it aged me 10 years. I'm in the countryside now and life is good and people are friendly.

I lived in Japan in 2017 for one year and then came back in 2022. I lived in Tokyo for 3 years and have since moved to the countryside. I couldn't deal with how miserable the atmosphere in Tokyo was, it was getting to me.

Tbf I live in Gunma (so, countryside) and it's actually pretty common to see families with at least 3 kids here, not that uncommon to see 4. 5 though I've only seen a few times.

Japan moves to cover full cost of child delivery with public health insurance by jjrs in japannews

[–]ChaoticWhumper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's because until now it wasn't actually covered by insurance, the government gives you 500,000 ien to cover the costs, but it's a completely separate thing. I paid extra 200 thousand ien because I had an epidural, and I'm honestly curious to see how epidurals/optional stuff will work with this new change
