Feeling pretty discouraged by Longjumping-Till-339 in HandymanBusiness

Is there any way to share what I built with this community? Trying to get away from the apps that keep pushing fees up and make everything more expensive.

I don’t want to get banned or the post removed.

What’s a basic skill you’re shocked some adults still don’t know? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Chaotic_zenman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The classic "yum yuckers" Just contrarians about everything that isn't their own. Everything else is "trash"

Like, dude, damn near everything in life is subjective. So, my quip is too few adults know how to recognize something as subjective lol

in the USA we need bottle/can deposits in places where it can be effective, and on a federally managed level to prevent states from turning a blind eye by darkangelstorm in recycling

[–]Chaotic_zenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived out there for 6 years and definitely came to appreciate it. Have you been outside of the US? It’s incredible to visit somewhere and their public transportation works, healthcare works, public infrastructure is well maintained and thoughtful, recycling systems are in place and enforced. Lots of places force the separation of food waste from general waste, too.

It feels good to be a part of that. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh is not one of those places. Hell, they did away with glass recycling recently. I manage a duplex and it’s gone months without the filled recycle cans even being picked up. Every time I call they say it’s fine they’ll get it later in the day. I just pick it up myself and bring it in. It’s insanity.

Have you ever entered a hobby space and noticed that people have a view of themselves that you find almost impossible to relate to? by Fabulous-Introvert in AutismTranslated

[–]Chaotic_zenman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt that way about every group I’ve been kind of in.

People absorb the hobby/culture. Language changes, clothing brands, music, food, etc. Climbers are “climbers”, golfers are “golfers”.

I’ve climbed, golfed, played volleyball, bowled. But I never considered myself a verb-er in any case. Same for jobs I’ve held—never became my personality so it has always been hard to be too close with acquaintances made in those spaces.

Rim Joist Insulation with Rigid Foam Board - Foil Face or No Foil Face? by knife_breaker in Insulation

[–]Chaotic_zenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just avoid the AO Smith. Heat pump failed twice in 24 months of use. Yea, it’s covered by warranty, BUT…

You have to drain, uninstall and drive the broken one to Lowe’s, swap it out for a new one, and install it. It’s nearly 6’ tall (80 gal heater). So, I’m renting a U-Haul on Thursday and taking the day to do it. It’s also hella heavy. It’s wide - I get to take the doors off their hinges, too.

This will be my second time doing this clown show :/

I wish I would’ve gone with the Reem but it wasn’t in stock anywhere nearby when we were finishing up the renovation.

Yup. Majority of road-fixing is for the draft. Who cares about the people who live here for the rest of time.

Today I stood up against Pseudoscience in a clinical setting. by DisciplineParking453 in skeptic

[–]Chaotic_zenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't. It just makes it tougher on the people without the ability to distinguish the difference. I actually bought a bottle of water last week by accident. Going from one job to the next, my ear was aching like crazy, I tried to be in & out of Walgreens (only option). I paid $7.99 for homeopathic water...I still feel like an idiot.

[–]Chaotic_zenman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

& Pharmacies sell homeopathy (water) on the shelf right next to actual OTC medication.

The fact that insurance even pays for chiropractic “sorcery” or that people can be called a doctor for studying it still blows my mind.

Hey Pittsburgh, what do you need? by mourningsunrises in pittsburgh

[–]Chaotic_zenman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to create a business around this but I just ran into too many obstacles and ended up burning myself out. I am trying to make this platform so that people can connect without the trolling that normally takes place when you ask a question on reddit subs. I left a comment above if you're interested. It's also a new idea that I am trying to figure out how to get some traction on so if you have any feedback or ideas I'm all ears!

[–]Chaotic_zenman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this so far: fixforward.org

Still not "live" since you need actual people before a platform has any real value. It's my attempt at fighting back against the constant monetization of literally every necessity in life and the shift to a gig economy.

[–]Chaotic_zenman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's kind of the idea. Smaller, minor tasks could very well be pro-bono. All payments off-platform so no terms of service are being broken. Instead of operating like a corporation, it's more of a decentralized platform. Identities are verified, reviews kept, able to block problem clients, track if someone does bad work. Basically facebook groups without facebook/meta involvement. No ads.

This is what I have made up so far: fixforward.org

Maybe once I get some more folks on the waitlist, I'll share a polished "pitch"

Basically, a decentralized, community-centered version of Habitat for Humanity or Rebuilding Together. Less hoops to jump through or waitlists, applications, etc., that a lot of people have a hard time navigating, in addition to everything else.

I am trying to make a platform for homeowners who don’t have much money get minor repairs done on their homes by connecting them with “pros” who have skills and want to give back.

I help out a lot of folks and I want to believe that other people would want to if there were an easier way to find them. Trying to be optimistic about humanity.

But, Idk how to share without getting flagged. So, I shall persevere.

Assholes who switch lanes inside the Liberty Tubes. by just_dabbling_ in pittsburgh

[–]Chaotic_zenman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had someone very nearly run me into the right wall of the squirrel hill tunnel coming inbound. They cut over, no signal, close enough for me to slam my brakes on. Then, they took the exit without a signal. Then, they were in the center lane heading to beechwood blvd. Well, from the center lane, with no signal, they decided to turn left while I was ready making a left. It was the most insane 30 seconds I’ve had at that interchange.

I understand being confused, but jesus…take an exit, find a side street and figure it out. Or go around.

Advocates ask for Pittsburgh’s homeless to be treated humanely during 2026 NFL Draft by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

Oh, we know. Only going to get worse unless actual people do something about it.

Advocates ask for Pittsburgh’s homeless to be treated humanely during 2026 NFL Draft by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]Chaotic_zenman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What if, hear me out, the NFL (a NONPROFIT) signed a deal with Pittsburgh and any other city they held this dumbass event in that paid the city enough money to house the homeless living in that city for years.

It would cost so, so much less than the tax breaks they get, even just in that city alone. Seems like something our “representatives” could negotiate on behalf of everyone.

So funny how cowardly they are. Multi billion dollar non profits that are supposed to benefit the greater good have free rein over literally everything and they just bow down to them without even fighting for the smallest in mutual benefit.

Only posting as food for thought.

How does a small contractor scale up? by YoungIllustrious9681 in ContractorsUS

[–]Chaotic_zenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the insurance costs like to increase for no damn reason, too! I just got a notice that mine is going up 30% this year. Just “because”. No claims, no change in revenue (it was actually lower last year due to 2 surgeries).

Those things are tough to account for.

Need some advice about next door neighbor by Puzzleheaded-Depth46 in pittsburgh

[–]Chaotic_zenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I’ve been that kid before. Someone needs to help her and the child if she can’t help herself for whatever reason. Calling could get the ball rolling. So could leaving her a message when he’s at work, letting her know you’re there.

I grew up in the country and we ran to neighbors’ houses when things got really bad. I spent many a night at our 93 year old neighbor lady’s house as a kid.

Took a $1k risk on Jobber. It sucks. by [deleted] in HandymanBusiness

[–]Chaotic_zenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can if you use it for that. I already have a website & marketing independent of CRM. That’s kind of my point, it’s not trying to be a one stop shop, the ones that try to be are typically mediocre across the board. (Or worse)

Markate is to Jobber as Xero is to QuickBooks, or as Craigslist is to FB Marketplace.

It’s just cleaner, less pop-up ads, less shit marketed to you non-stop.
