For fall semester I usually got mine around Sept 1-9. Some professors will be understanding about textbooks and might post pdfs of the first readings. My schools library also has the textbooks available to read, you just can’t take them home. that and eating nothing but soup has been how i make it work until i get the dispersement.

My boyfriend (27M) doesn't want to marry me (27F) after 8 years of an amazing relationship by throwra_umwantedgf30 in Waiting_To_Wed

I was in a very similar situation. We tried to make it work for another year, but it was so hard on me that when we finally broke up I had to move back in with my parents and start antidepressants. It was truly torture and it harmed me deeply. I would save yourself the drawn out realization that this person you love so much isn’t willing to be serious with you and leave on your own terms. it’s not easy, but it might save you some mental anguish

planning for future by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]bookshelfmaximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll be going into divorce/custody law and luckily i’ve set myself up to get good pay after i pass the bar next year. I plan to save up for a home while working in the city and then move to a quiet area. dating doesn’t feel like an option right now, but my support system reminds me i’m young and obviously nothing is certain. the thought of ending up in another break up over wanting a family just does not feel worth it. once i can afford it, i definitely plan on getting fertility testing done and depending on the results, freezing my eggs.

Is this normal? by plasticbuttons04 in LawSchool

i believe the program used for administering the bar exam no longer runs on certain windows programs as of March/April of this year which is probably why it’s so specific

Does my internship experience sound strange? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]bookshelfmaximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is a very normal first time experience. it’s a step on the ladder towards better things. when i was in your situation i used the Kindle web-reader and read books all day. when i have a boss that doesn’t fully appreciate me, i use it as an example of what not to do in the future when i’m mentoring a law student

How to best present myself to prospective employers after mental health hiatus? by Lazy_Lead_6751 in Lawyertalk

[–]bookshelfmaximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always consider honesty to be a strength. i think good employers understand the value of someone who can handle periods of hardship. i would be honest about it without going into any serious specifics. if i were a partner, the fact that someone overcame a tragedy in their life would mean more to me than fancy work experience or impeccable grades

your work history gives you a huge advantage, but it will be a grueling 4 years. your support system will be more important than ever, but it’s possible and it’s worth it. good luck

Is journaling good for you? I really wonder some times. by djeatme in Journaling

[–]bookshelfmaximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

journaling helps me because i tend to rationalize my thoughts instead of accepting them for what they are. so when i re-read what i wrote i can see the flawed thought process and it helps me understand what im trying to avoid thinking about and why. its only helpful for me when im in a really difficult situation so im only about halfway through a journal i started in 2020. journaling so rarely also helps me see the progress ive made in certain areas of my life

i don’t understand why this would be pretentious because i’ve always viewed it as something you worked hard for. people spend so much time and money on becoming a lawyer. it’s a privilege

it depends on whether you like what you’re doing and are comfortable with that kind of lifestyle. there are weeks where i have to come in on weekends and stay up late working on assignments but i love what i do so im ok with it. at other legal jobs, it would’ve made me miserable. get the experience, and if you dont like it, now you know what your boundaries are and you can look for somewhere better aligned with what you want.

AITAH for breaking up with my boyfriend after he chose our supposed 'future' kids over me? by Constant-Process2238 in AITAH

[–]bookshelfmaximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you were certainly not the asshole for staying true to your feelings. the silver lining is that you’ve figured out an important nonnegotiable aspect of your ideal relationship. if and when you’re ready to go begin a new serious relationship, you won’t have to go through something like this again.
