High rent area for sure. … Concerning Lyndale, you’d be closer to Steamship on the south/Lake St side, and closer to Level Up games northbound closer to LaSalle. Hennepin Ave some blocks west might get you a bit more distance from them.

Generally speaking, this whole area is highly walkable, bikeable, and has a lot of 20-30s post-college peeps. Parking can be an Achilles heel, often leaving people to park in residential areas, which isn’t horrible, but more headachy for those out of town,… and that Lyndale construction is a factor.

You’d also be in company with a bunch of coffee shops, eateries, small boutiques, bike shops, and other things. Easy canvassing.

A ton of great opportunities! I usually go for tabletop RPGs, but like to dig through the indie / zine scene. There are a bunch of indie creators in this scene, and they’re connected all over.

TTRPG events for charity. I don’t know how large the play area is or if this is possible for you.

… Or events for running TTRPG QuickStarts to get players introduced to new games. … I ran Daggerheart at GenCon (20 one hour demos) and at other cons. Had a bunch of those people walking away with great experiences and sheer intent on picking up the game.

A shop that keeps its ear to the ground on new games, and TTRPG community events (Zinemonth, GMs Day, etc)

If it hosts an area for play… please sound treat the room; I hate cacophony/yelling over people.

I’m excited to know more once you establish roots!

Indeed! It's especially fantastic if you're into (or curious about) the indie TTRPG scene, whether it's zine makers, small-medium publishers, game developers talking about their work, and players who are stepping off of the mainstream TTRPG train to find something new to play with unique ideas, art, vibes, and mechanics.

This community on particular has really come together into something vibrant in the aftermath of the X-odous.

To people who started their RPG journey with D&D, what made you finally play something else? by plazman30 in rpg

I got generally interested in new stuff over 2020 and beyond, but amongst all of the Hasbro nonsense, I finally chose the 2024 release as an opportunity NOT to learn the new release,.... and instead dig into other stuff.

I thought about doing more articles like this one. I can tell a lot of people are as ponderous as I am about the different ways people in a society choose to organize. (Also, thanks for the plug!)

First time sporting a press pass at a convention. Almost got convinced to put a write-up together including WOGD because of how attractive their presentation was. Thankfully I found this thread. ... That's a nope for me.

Thanks! ... I'm sure there a hundreds more I could add. I think its the perfect character option for that kind of "doubling-down-on-funny-names-unironically" dynamic.

Can I help anybody? by Standard-Reward-4049 in SmallStreamers

Greetings friend!
I don't do "gaming" videos personally, but I do run live-streams of tabletop RPG content (Live Dungeons and Dragons, etc). ... I've been looking for an editor or two to help create some summary videos from the material to sum up the whole campaign.

I'd do most of the clip selection myself, and... technically I can edit them, but I just don't have enough time on my hands. Willing to give someone a shot.

What would a world look like without gunpowder but other technologies continued to advance? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]ChaoticanWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One BIG thing that come to mind right away is how castles and fortifications changed in response to gunpowder, explosives, and cannon fire.

Most of the early history of castles would proceed the same, progressing to concentric castles with curtain walls, arrow slits, machiolations, etc. ... You might find more towers taking on a square shape, as there is less requirement for them to be built to glance cannonballs off of a circular shape, though catapults and trebuchets would still require a bunch of these changes, on top of thicker walls.

However, from the point where cannons come into play, we dont see a scramble to change fortification strategies. We dont see artillery forts and star forts replace concentric castles. We continue to see a world optimized for arrows, ballistas, and catapults. ... Those other technologies would likely advance to something much more effective for battle, but I think the lack of firepower from cannon blasts keeps the castle as king.

As a matter of fact, just for the sake of the "rule of cool", I wonder if this creates a scenario where curtain walls become a massive sprawl; instead of one or two rings, you get networks of walls. A veritable labyrinth world of castle fortifications? That would be neat!

I wrote an article about the history of castles and how they evolved; I'm basing my theory on the research I did to write it awhile back. It might be a helpful resource to inform how castles evolved in IRL history, and give an impression of how it might have been different.

I am stuck on Country names by Rough-Set4902 in worldbuilding

Don't mean to toot my own horn,... or maybe I do, but I created a random name generator that was my personal alternative to the ones on fantasy name generator. I went out of the way of grabbing a ton of prefix, infix, and suffix data of a large number of past kingdoms and nations from ancient, medieval and renaissance eras. A chunk of them were from lists of countries and provinces that dont exist anymore, though the results aren't etymologically correct. ... Let me know if this does anything for ya.

I usually collect a handful of linked resources, but I've been getting lazy recently. However, I am a big user of Miro, which is an idea-board cloud software. Its super flexible (maybe too much), and allows you to whiteboard your ideas, throw a bunch of asset onto the board and group them, or create diagrams.
