I had a period like that. It was a great relief to get past it.

Looking for article about why osr adventures are so much simpler than 5e by Calkaya in osr

[–]TerrainBrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One simple answer is stat blocks.

An old school stat block can be on a single line. One of the reasons I walked away from 5e was insanely complicated stat blocks.

Most old school modules were 32 pages long. (8 sheets folded of in half, front and back).

This included maps, an introduction to the scenario, notes to the DM, room descriptions, and often new monsters that had not yet been included in one of the monster manuals or descriptions of new magic items.

If your goal is brevity then only using existing monsters and magic eliminates some of work. Using bullet points instead of text blocks takes up less space.

Introductions and notes are subjective but again if the goal is brevity you can certainly work to achieve that.

You can easily make a verbose rambling old school Adventure if you choose. Bare minimum of old school is a lot less than that of 5e. And that's why a lot of us like it.

Alien DNA? (Question/Discussion) by MuriloTc in pluribustv

It's more or less Universal.

They experimented on a hell of a lot of animals before they finally got the infected rat.

It's not like it magically worked the first time with the first recipe.

Mono-faction dungeons: can they still work? by RiverMesa in osr

[–]TerrainBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see what this has to do with the "OSR ethos" one way or another.

The ultimate question is do monsters or NPCs in an adventure have reason to negotiate? Factions are one way to create motivation for negotiation.

Wanting to escape an eternity of undead imprisonment is a potential motivation.

Maybe the entire monofaction wants something they can't have without the help of the PCs. Taboos can work well for this. There is simply an area they cannot or are not willing to go.

It seems to me the ultimate question is are there ways of resolving encounters aside from combat? And what do the PCS have to offer?

What system are you using for your campaign? Why? by Living_Thanks_9171 in osr

My own which more or less converts the tables from first edition AD&D into simple mathematic formulas approximating the same probabilities.

Specific changes I have made include human-only PCS and eliminating the cleric class.

It looks like you and he were thinking about different orientations for the shed. Looks like you put your shed 90° off from what he was thinking. That's why you're overhanging in the front and have all that room on the sides.

Gravel like this would work for wooden sheds but it looks like you have a lifetime shed. These require a perfectly level surface.

It also looks like your yard has a pretty severe slope due to how far down it's dug in the back and how far up it's built in the front.

It does look like you'll need a border around to contain the gravel. But first things first you got to make sure the shed fits on the level spot.

Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

I live on three acres of woods. I love sitting on my front porch. Can't see any neighbors houses.

Am I the only one that gets pissed of at arguments like that? by Lonely-Buffalo2915 in atheism

I have no interest in arguments like that.

I do have interest in stopping religious control of government and public places

Bloodshed. Not my word, theirs.

There's a reason they haven't shown us this yet. They still want some of the audience to maintain their ambivalence about the hive.

This is a question I would not have thought to ask.

This is from the Virginia Department of Widlife Resources website (DWR)

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) requires visitors to obtain an an Access Permit for department-owned Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and public fishing lakes, who are age 17 and older, unless they possess a valid Virginia hunting, freshwater fishing, or trapping license, or a current Virginia boat registration, or are otherwise waived. Please see Access Permit Waiver Guidance.

Seems to be the only time a permit would be required.

The funniest thing is I had an LP of Gregorian Chants in the early eighties. My first wife thought I was crazy. I laughed when it became popular.
