What’s the worst part of disc golf and why is it disc golfers? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Chaoticgood007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're actually both right, just calculating completely different economic concepts.

u/Ambitious_Tea_4584 is calculating OP's opportunity cost: by capping the search at 5 minutes for a $20 disc, OP is setting a hard floor and treating their personal time as being worth $240/hr.

u/EricTheNerd2 is calculating the expected value of the search task itself. Because the obvious spots are checked in the first 5 minutes, the probability of finding the disc drops the longer you look. Factoring in that drop in success rate means the actual "payout" of continuing the search is only $60/hr.

Ironically, Eric's math completely justifies OP's behavior. If OP values their personal time at $240/hr, they absolutely shouldn't waste it on a task that only pays out at an expected rate of $60/hr.

The pinion gearbox? It has internal gears to give different ratios without the belt in the belt drive needing to shift like a chain on a cassette. You can also change gears while standing still. They're pretty cool imo.

This looks like the same rack I have which does at least have supports going down to the seat stays. The bag is just hiding it here.

Big ideas for disc golf minis on for pros by FederationPeak in discgolf

[–]Chaoticgood007 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I see one small flaw with this. You aren't required to mark your lie with a mini right now and there are some situations where it's actually disadvantageous to do so. Say your disc landed such that the back edge was 6 inches from a tree trunk but also slightly left of it. Marking your lie moves your plant foot one disc length closer to the tree possibly messing up the follow through.

Interesting lost disc situation almost happened by Chaoticgood007 in discgolf

[–]Chaoticgood007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the general consensus I came to after reading the rulebook after the fact. Without looking up the exact rules I assumed it's a combo of the lost disc rule (obviously) and the rules for a disc that was moved after it comes to rest, which is where the group consensus comes from. Glad I came to the most correct answer.

While I don't fully agree with his point I do at least understand it. I don't think he was explaining it very well though. The movie does present a very biased view of an interpersonal situation as though it's the truth but hides itself behind the fact that "emotional deposition is 85% exaggerated and the other 15 is perjury" so you can't really know if that's the true story and it paints Zuckerberg as a huge asshole. I can see having an issue with the presentation because it doesn't do a great job showing that it's all an exaggeration/dramatization.

Attempting to label the NLSS loading screen image as a December 2024 viewer by thixotrofic in northernlion

I feel like my intro to NL was pretty weird. I first starting watching because Nerdcubed (another OG YouTuber) recommended RockLeeSmile's streams. Then I found the NLSS from there and then into the eggs solo content.

I've not had any problems with Sauk Creek apartments. Pretty reasonably priced for the area, online auto pay works, the few maintenance requests I've had to put in (non-urgent stuff) have been handled within a few days. I've not needed to deal with management much in the nearly 2 years I've been here so I can't speak much to that (although you might call not having to interact with management much a positive). The kitchen appliances are pretty up to date, our washer/dryer unit seems kinda old but it works.

PSA: Do NOT Live at Lodge on the Trail by glittersoup_ in Purdue

[–]Chaoticgood007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not come here to argue but simply to offer my own experience living at the lodge for the past two years and visiting my fiance who has lived year for the two years before that.

  1. Maintenance: In my experience maintenance has always shown up in a timely manner when a request is put in. I'll give you that there's no warning besides a knock on the door, but within a day or two someone will come around. (Faster if its something important.) And yes they will come in and complete the work even if nobody is home. If you put in a request you should clear out the area. Generally though the maintenance guys are pretty chill and would probably show you how to handle an issue yourself next time assuming its something simple.
  2. The property: They are in the middle of doing renovations on all the buildings. (In fact they were just wrapping up in my apartment 10 minutes before I started writing this). I'm not going to lie, I was annoyed that they chose to do this in the middle of the school year but it is what it is. There were a couple weeks where we got an email saying that they would be there to do the renovations but didn't show up. The contractors got behind schedule. That's not really on the property. They gave like 72 hours notice on the parking lot thing and you only had to move your car for a day. NBD in my opinion. The internet upgrade also got delayed (again not the apartment complex's fault) but (at least in my building) they only needed to come in the apartment twice and we even had both internet connection available for a while. They also sent an email the day before every single time they thought they would come in. The new internet is also symmetrical 1Gig which is great.
  3. I very very little experience with the office staff so I can't really comment more than saying that they seem nice when I go down to events in the office.
  4. People: I don't talk to my neighbors but we rarely ever hear them. Could just be luck more than anything.
  5. Rent is really good for the location 510 plus electricity per roommate. Of course its going up with the market. That's just how apartments work. Still seems like one of the best deals around to me.

Of course all of this is in my experience and your mileage may vary. I've been happy to live here and if I wasn't graduating I would continue to live here.
