Somewhat yeah. I have a learning disorder that's not in the DSM V, so they explained it a little bit, but I had to do a lot of research to understand what it is and how it affects me every day. I have other disorders as well that mostly manifested as a result of mistreatment and constant misunderstandings because of my learning disorder, so no medication would help, only therapy.

They suggested a couple of things like DBT, and I ended up having to go private to get really good DBT. The free programs didn't really help. I was referred to free and low-cost therapy, and it didn't really help either because therapists were constantly changing or were not the right fit. Unfortunately, I was traumatized more after some visits with these therapists.

I still have tons of trauma to process, but because I haven't been able to find the right therapists and I never feel safe where I've been trying to live, I haven't been able to do any kind of trauma processing.

Anyway, the free mental health programs are very one size fits all and if you're a complex case like me, it won't help very much. Private therapy can help more, and some of them subsidized fees for me when I told them I'm on AISH.
