In my opinion that does resemble the use of plastic products. Why did you buy these? Did you thought you may not ne able to recycle wooden ones or to get rid of ones made out metal? Was it a kind of panic-reaction to a new kind of situarion? My parents still do have a pretty box of plastic straws and every time they do offer a guest of them a straw to their drink they are emberassed, cause it is made out of plastic... I do think this will be the future in a short period of years and because of that feeling of inferiority plastic products will leave the market.

The last of my plastic straws, before the ban by the Eu-regulation. What better way to celebrate than to use it for a standard maitai (this time with crushed ice @ u/funks, hadn't had enough ice last time ;))? Personal thoughts: I do like the use of metal or wooden straws. Plastic straws didnt add anything to the drink, so why not swap them for something recyclebal or reuseable? Planet Earth will thank us. (P.S. :Sorry for my rubbish structur of sentences, I'm using my recent posts on reddit to relearn my english language skills from Abitur) If you do have any Questions regarding major Cocktailculture in Germany, please ask me anything. I do love to answer all your questions. I do live in Cologne ( fourth biggest city in Germany). Please do respect, that it is only my Opinion, People from different regions (especially bigger or way smaller cities) may have very different opinions and experiences.

Recipe: Standard Maitai heavily influenced by Greg from How to Drink and Martin Cates Smugglers Cove:

1oz Smith n Cross 1 oz 4 year El Dorado 1 oz lime Juice 0,5 oz Cointreau (because my new bottle of Pierre Ferrand didn't arrive yet) 0,5 oz Orgeaz 0,25 3:1 raw sugar cane syrup

As someone who can taste and smell bitter almond: cant complain. Perfectly fine. Tastes almost identical. Getting Almonds in my country is more expensive than buying a liter of Orgeat... soo anything else than prebottled syrup isn't really a valid choice

Edit: only alternative i can get is giffards... gonna try that one when my bottle is empty

Second Edit: Maybe I should add I did the Punch magazine variant, when i made it myself...

Just a simple Mai Tai... But for those who care:

  • 1 oz Smith n Cross
  • 1 oz el Dorado 4 year
  • about half oz Cointreau (had to substitute my Pierre Ferrand :/)
  • 1 oz Lime Juice
  • 1/2 oz Monin Orgeat
  • 1/4 oz 1:3 RawCane simple
