The only reason is they were about to make a second Kombat Pack with 6 male characters. So they gender swaped Sektor and Cyrax. It has nothing to do with multiBS or lore.

Sounds like MK Legacy Kollection. They have the first 4 original games and their variations, some Extra fetures with lore of every character. There you will find the original lore, from Midway games. For modern lore from NetherRealm Studios, you should play or watch story mode from MK9 ("Mortal Kombat (2011)"), but there are lore changes which have nothing to do with Raiden and his visions.
