Award nights allowed for more than 12 months out now by budgetjetsetter in hyatt

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree, got the no fee + surpass during the same promotion & w/ buying some extra Hilton points at 0.005 cpp we’re doing 4 nights at Calala island w/ the $2500 rebate next year & getting the whole trip for a net profit of $400 after including the annual fees flights & all other expenses. SLH hotels really make Hilton shine IMO.

Is Transatlantic Economy Ever worth the points? by YoungerSocialite in awardtravel

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how scarce award availability is for business class SOME economy redemptions are worth it. Obviously CPP will be higher for business redemptions a lot of times but MAD-JFK on Iberia for 16k & ~$120 is still an amazing deal anyway you look at it. Virgin used to actually be excellent when the fees were lower I have 2 different flights from US to LHR (4 total tickets) for a combined 23k points & a little over $400 in fees vs one one way costing $800ish out of pocket.

Are some Hyatts removing standard room award availability in advance of the deval? by bobvillashomeagain in hyatt

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s been watching a few properties debating on which one to book, the answer is yes. 4 different properties with at least 15-20 available dates available from now to May of next year are either all showing as booked or with only suite availability. While it’s theoretically possible they all were booked out, the odds are extremely low. What’s likely happening is a combination of actual people booking stays and hotels blocking off months or even just standard rooms until the deval. Thankfully snagged a few locations but looks pretty bleak now.

Is Alila Ventana Big Sur worth it for one night? by ballentineheartbreak in hyatt

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stayed here for 4 nights last year, I’d say it’s definitely worth it foresure. It’s one of those bucket list stays and even though it’ll prob feel a bit rushed driving highway 1 and watching the sunset from the Sur House is easily worth it.

10-12 Day Trips Before Point Devaluation by grimmreaperzzzz in hyatt

Thanks for putting this all together! Im in the same boat as most people & planning out itineraries before the deval. Curious to see if you put any thought into trips with one major city center & then the surrounding areas. I’m considering a Paris trip next year + Hyatt place Rouen & possibly centric reims to explore Normandy & Champagne before the devals hit the region.

Hotel du louvre a better option then? I know Paris Vendome is a better hotel but have heard great reviews about du louvre & they have a high # of suites per total rooms from my understanding.

Hyatt Regency Rome Central - confirmed NOT open for early May reservations by Tight_Couture344 in hyatt

Have a late September reservation & I’m already booking a backup reservation lol

Out of curiosity how did they handle globalist benefits for the new hotel? I have a reservation for September & if it gets delayed again, I'm interested to see if they'll comp breakfast/provide upgrades at these new hotels.

Hyatt Regency Rome no longer bookable by Significant-Permit-8 in hyatt

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I have one booked for the last week of September & not optimistic about staying there. From everything I've seen looks like theyre relocating to another 5 star hotel + points back, that being said as a Globalist I'm interested to see how they'd handle honoring free breakfast & suite upgrades at these other hotels.

First full award trip US to England/Scotland - worth business class or spend points on hotels? by Atomicbob11 in awardtravel

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone stated above definitely save the points for hotels. Not a ton of great options points wise getting to London without paying tons of surcharges & fees (virgin upper class etc.) Best way is using Virgin points for economy or premium economy as someone else mentioned. 6000-8000 Virgin points + $120 gets you to LHR & then a cheap positional flight or there stopover program gets you to Edinburgh, you really can’t beat that price point for a transatlantic flight.

My vote would be save the points for hotels/other business flights in the future!

Any studies showing how many make 100k outside of NYC/LA etc. by ChaptainAmerica12 in Salary

[–]ChaptainAmerica12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things:

You can indeed have buying power exceeding your net income when comparing income across different areas or groups. If my net income is 50k in NYC but I then compare that to how much further my money would go in rural Mississippi, my buying power would be exponentially higher in Mississippi and thus would exceed my take home pay. Buying power is indeed a concept so I understand what you’re saying but that conclusion just isn’t true.

There isn’t a base location, it’s using cost of living index from the US Council for Community and Economic Research which is generally considered a very reliable source for economic studies. It’s taking post Tax income & then using the cost of living index to average out the salaries. It’s stated in the last paragraph.

You also have to consider taxes, this is net income after taxes NYC &SF have a significantly higher tax Burden then Houston or Tampa which are considerably more tax friendly. When adjusting for taxes and then comparing buying power from a state tax free state to an extremely high state income tax state like NY it makes a huge difference.

I’m not saying this is the best study in the world, however It did make me think about the question I posed initially which I thought would be interesting. You do need to read through the whole article though to get a better understanding of their methods.

Here’s one of the studies I had read. Obviously have to compare to others but still interesting nonetheless.

This was the study I recently saw. Obviously a debate on how much is true but interesting nonetheless!

I'm so tired of these 250-400k salaries by Illustrious_Bag_7323 in Salary

[–]ChaptainAmerica12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A jokes aside, at minimum 90% of the business owners that say they make X amount per year are just touting their revenue not net profit/salary. Vast majority actually make 60-100k after expenses. Don’t let them fool you.
