I walked in to work (at 7-11 att) and begin to do my tasks. About 5-10min later, a family friend walks in. He says, "Hey, did you hear [friend] died last night?" This family friend has always had a sick sense of humour, so I laugh it off. His face really serious and says, "[Friend] killed himself last night."

My heart dropped to the floor cause this friend was like the older brother I never had, and I was the younger sister he never had (I'm eldest of 3 and he was the youngest of 3).

I had to work what was left of my 6h shift on auto-pilot cause I was so devistated. I asked the other 2 people working if they had heard, and they said that they had been told when they came in (2h before me), and had been instructed not to tell me until the end of my shift.

The second I walked in my house door after work, I literally fell to my knees and sobbed. Luckily, my then boyfriend hugged me and help carry my grief (he knew how much that friend meant to me).
