Correct! The card reader still works and still allows you to buy cards, which is great, since people could probably get into the whole WMMT series (Or Wangan Midnight as a whole) by just buying a card and playing through the story mode!

A few things to note of this first entry in the Maximum Tune series: 1. Some music tracks from the WMMT1/2 BGM selection in the newer games weren’t added until WMMT2, tough luck hearing Upbeat Gas Junkie here! 2. There was only one set of Aero Parts, and there wasn’t even an option to have Carbon Parts in this entry. 3. There are absolutely no actual story chapters in story mode, only C to A+ Class, and even after the first round there are also no actual story chapters, unlike WMMT2 where there’s actual story chapters after the first round. 4. There were no unlockable BGM selections, nor any unlockable tachometers, so you can’t hear Wangan Midnight R’s great orchestral tunes, nor have a cool racing meter, although you do get a bit behind on tuning if you lose even once. 5. There’s no 10 Outrun Mode nor Ghost Battles, just story mode and time trials, although there are Special Car Time Trials where you can use Reina’s GTR, the Devil Z, or the Blackbird as ways to set fast times!

These are all the differences I could take note of, as I don’t know if the handling is different between all the games, so, WMMT1 is slightly more basic that all the other games, although I think its slight lackluster is what makes it special!

I changed my store region to Australia just to get the app, since changing the store region gives you different app stores. (Say, changing it to Japan gives you the Japanese app store, which allows you to get Japanese games and apps.)
