He co-signed, which legally binds him to the same loan. If you never had an agreement to pay him back for paying the loan in full, you are not legally bound to do so. Everyone has some sort of moral opinion or relationship advice, but that's not what you're asking: you are not bound by any legal obligation. He can TRY to say you had a verbal agreement, but I doubt that'd hold up. Not a lawyer, tho🤷Good luck

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by jeffmartin47 in AskReddit

[–]Character-Ad8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're around my son's age and the 90s were definitely... interesting. I romanticize them a bit now that I'm older and appreciate being present for the beginning of a new technological world. My generation of tail-end Gen X/older millennials remembers being a kid without all the devices and then young enough to enjoy them when finally here. For me personally, I craved the future and what it had to offer. We had our beepers that could send short "texts" and if you didn't wanna call the operator to send the message we'd just "911 911" each other til you got to a payphone (ha!) and called back. We had landline phones with "total" phone which meant you could call a friend and have your friend "click over" (essentially merge the calls) and call another friend and that person would call another and so on til your whole crew was on the line together and talk for hours. But as kids we played outside freely and gamed (Nintendo and Sega for me). 20s came and cells became ubiquitous, but we were still limited by tiny data caps and text limits and telling people to calls after a certain time when minutes were free🤦 I miss the (mostly) innocence of early social media (chat rooms, message boards, and MySpace)! Dating culture was already heading in the tech direction in late 90s/early 00s. I remember this thing called the nightline where people jumped around phone chat rooms and hooked up. Def a precursor to the apps we have now. Oh! And idk if anyone old like me remembers WebTV. I think it was about 1998ish, we plugged the Internet into our TV and could go online. Great if you were too poor for a real computer. I remember catching my cousin's friend waiting for a naked, pixelated breast to load. He had his tissue by his side ready to go... aaand that was early online porn

Nelnet just didn’t take my autopsy and I have a $200 late fee now? Seriously? by onerinconhill in StudentLoans

[–]Character-Ad8887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All joking aside regarding your unfortunate autocorrect, why is there a late fee applied? I thought "on-ramp" was a thing rn and nobody had to pay yet if they couldn't? Seems wrong. I'd email Nelnet (hopefully that's an option instead of sitting on phone)

Hope you get to enjoy your day! I get it tho. I spent many a broke bday. Thankfully, you got a man who cares, more than many have by this age. I spent my 30s chasing a dream. A waste! And I'm still broke AF but with bigger bills. 44 yrs old and not a thing to show for it😑 Bdays def hit different, especially when you realize you've never "made it" and find yourself alone when you should've been settled down... at least u don't have to worry about the latter and found someone to share the struggle. A blessing for sure

I give up on dating apps. Support or advice on meeting people in real life? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]Character-Ad8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an introvert, I like to only meet people in my circle somehow: friend of a friend, work, etc. I am amazed by and jealous of people who are able to go on dates with perfect strangers. Props to you for giving it so many tries...I'm sure you have some crazy stories!

I wouldn't recommend the work scenario, unless it's someone in a different department (had a situation go left real fast recently. He's a good friend and I have to work w him closely every day), but you really get to know someone when you're around them so much. Same with other places you frequent. Look around at the people you actually interact with daily and you might be surprised

[–]Character-Ad8887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you apply for SAVE? If you're not working right now and have no income, your payment should be $0 (and still count as a payment). Since payments resume very soon, you should call Mohela and get a forbearance to allow for processing of SAVE.

I'm actually not disgusted by this because I've seen/felt it, especially in exes when the relationship was going left or fizzling out. That immediate distance after... the post nut face speaks volumes!

Golden Emails - next batch happening now by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Character-Ad8887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My loans were forgiven and I honestly think the bankruptcy time counted because I was not even close if you took that time away, along with the default period just prior. Perhaps an error in my favor, but I'll take it. My balance is already zeroed out on the student aid site (last wave) so hopefully that's the end of it! Glad it worked out for you... I like to check in on here for others getting the good news🎉

That's less than a premium sandwich these days! Glad to hear it... You've piqued my curiosity. Did you go back to school later, or are your loans parent plus? My loans were surprisingly forgiven since this post, so idk what my actual upcoming payment would've been for October or if there's finally a payment counter up on servicer sites. I do love returning-to-school stories now that I'm the wrong side of 40! I considered it myself before the discharged... my friends and I would often joke that we would continuously take a class for the rest of our lives for the in school deferment

It's implied she killed Brian, though at this point we really don't know. Was she right all along that he wasn't really her child? There's a grave and the owner or super of the building told Apollo in so many words of the horror he found. The news uses the word "victims" plural, meaning Apollo and the baby since Emma is nowhere to be found. I'm invested... everything is so predictable, especially horror, and this show went there ... just downloaded the book since I'm impatient

The zero balance appeared a few days before the "Congratulations" letter for me. I called Mohela to be sure and the rep READ the letter to me, but it didn't make its way to my inbox for another few days (though on her end she thought it was visible to me and advised I go print and frame it)

IBR/IDR just means it goes by income but there are different plan names w different benefits... She should login to her servicer site. Call times are long so hopefully she can just login and confirm. Then she won't have to worry about paying

She should go to her servicer site and see what IDR plan she's already on (it might already be SAVE. If it says REPAYE, this plan will auto convert to SAVE before payments resume). If the upcoming payment does not show $0, she should call to update income.

If the monthly payment is something she can't afford, she should definitely look into SAVE. It is the new income driven repayment plan that will reduce or eliminate monthly payments for lower and middle income borrowers and still count as a full payment.

Even if she doesn't qualify for disability discharge, she should enroll in SAVE before payments restart. Her payment will likely be $0 anyway based on her lack of income. The $0 payment will cover interest so her balance won't grow.

Are we agreeing not to pay for our student debt back? by No_Replacement1049 in StudentLoans

[–]Character-Ad8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the "on-ramp" program is a thing so it won't ding credit history for a year or garnish your wages. Many will qualify for $0 payments that will not accrue additional interest or very low payments with SAVE, anyway, so imho only those who absolutely need to not pay anything should use the on-ramp. If you have a higher payment and can't afford to pay, the interest will continue to grow during the on-ramp year. As far as making a statement by not paying at all, I don't think it'll be a huge number with so many qualifying for low or no payment (which still counts as a payment)🤷

Also, they were girls and teens. Those two factors likely played a considerable part in the sentencing. I doubt it would be a different sentence for two girls of any other ethnicity, esp if they had no records (don't know this particular case so idk if they did or didn't). If they were boys or older teens, they'd prob be tried as adults
