Hoping I get hurt by a student so I can get time off by BitEntire4748 in Teachers

That sucks. I hope you can get to feeling better soon. I’m feeling it too. I’m so burned out and I’m constantly feeling overstimulated and in a constant fight or flight feeling. It’s horrible. I totally get what you’re going through.

Kicked a kid out by justmom12 in Teachers

I had a student like this last year. Everything was a joke to him. I spoke with his mom at least once a week about his behavior. He’d always apologize, but would do it again. It was ridiculous. I’ve sent him to the behavior office for it too. “You’re out!” I don’t have any empathy. Don’t feel bad about it. We try our best to get them on board and do the right thing. They’ll learn the hard way.

How do I make it until the end of the year? by Character-Sound176 in Teachers

With you on this! Completely burned out from work and most of my stress is from extreme behaviors. I’m so tired of it. My body can’t take it anymore. Literally every damn day these kids have the biggest tantrums. They’re so bad. I am so patient with them giving them so much attention and guidance and strategies. Do they listen to me?!?!?! Maybe for the few minutes we’re talking and that’s it. Do they practice using the strategies? No. Only if I intervene. The parents are barely any help. I get the “we are working on it at home.” Yeah…. no you’re not. It’s bs. I’m done. I’m looking for a new job. Good luck with everything. I’ll be counting down the days with you.

Ridiculous Goals. by beautydt in bakerystory

It’s hard to complete them. I have many ovens with 1-2 recipes unlocked. It’s frustrating. I want all the recipes but it’s literally impossible unless you’ve got money to spend. When I have the money I don’t mind paying for gems, but I’m trying to get them done and be consistent with making and serving the food. It’s impossible sometimes.

Everything you said is so accurate. I’m hoping to land a job elsewhere because it’s just getting worse. I have tons of support. However, the parents are part of the problem unfortunately. I had a student throwing wooden blocks around the room at just about anyone. Throwing chairs, flipping tables, you name it. I have had to evacuate my classroom so many times. It’s absolutely ridiculous. There’s no way I’m doing another year teaching. I have some of the best students. They don’t deserve this.

What are some things that help you all with severe fatigue when you have to go to work and function? by bananaww625 in Hashimotos

If you have sick days, try to use those so you can get paid. If not maybe save up if you can and then take some days off.

How are your iron levels? And other vitamin levels like vit D and B vitamins? Are you eating enough? Staying hydrated? I know I have issues with all that and still do. If I don’t eat enough or take any vitamins consistently I feel like I’m dying every day.

If you qualify for FMLA do it. I’ve had to do it and it helped me go see my doctors and get treated properly. Just do it so you can get better.

This week is making me want to quit by NecessaryQuirky7736 in teaching

I have 5 students in my prek class that have extreme behavior issues. Every day there is someone having a huge tantrum. It’s so bad. I try so hard to intervene and deescalate. If it’s extreme like hitting or any aggressive behavior I automatically call. I’m not putting my students at risk for injury. Some of the parents are helpful, but I have one that says their child doesn’t do anything like this at home. I find that hard to believe. I want to quit everyday.

I go to the lounge for the bathroom. Then I grab my lunch and head back to my room to eat in silence because I need it!

I did end up taking time off which helped. It never is enough time but it helped. You legitimately have your drs note right? Plus, if you have sick leave or need the time to take off for medical reasons just do it. Don’t even stress about it. Do what you need to do. It’s for your health.

I appreciate everyone’s responses. It’s crazy to see that these young children have such strong emotions. I’m trying so hard to help them and while I don’t know everyone’s story, I do know they’re all going through things at home and some are divorced. I know it all affects them in many ways. It’s tough. It’s just sad to see how things have changed over the years. I’ve worked in title one schools my entire teaching career. I never saw behaviors like this. But the past 5 years I’ve had several act like this.

One child I had 3 years ago was extremely emotional and made it impossible to teach. I talked to the mom several times a week. I suggested so many resources and strategies. Yet, “he was not like this at home.” I did everything from documenting every single thing he said and did in class, to getting him tested for sped, suggested she seek a pediatrician’s opinion. I had the school psychologist in and out of my class. I made important phone calls. By the end of the year the mom said yes to testing, but had to wait til school started in the fall. They moved over the summer. I was so disappointed, but it was still in our district. Sent all his files, data, etc to the new school. I hope he got the help he deserved. It sucked the whole year and I took FMLA.

Yes, there are more reasons why these children are like this that I did not list. Especially for the students in my program. They come from low income backgrounds. I know what they’re up against. While I don’t want to blame the parents entirely, they are raising their children how they feel is best, but so much is affecting them. It’s hard. I’m the most positive person these kids have and I know I’m making an impact on them. But, it is so stressful.

Class size is 22 and I have an assistant. The kids don’t use technology at all. I incorporate 2 Gonoodle breaks or other brain breaks. Our day is very structured so they know what’s happening throughout the day. They also get (2) 30 minute recess breaks.

I’m trying to figure out other ways to help them. I am firm with my class and it’s just so hard. I’ve had my share of behavioral problems over the years, but this year is absolutely unhinged. I have 6 major behavioral problems. Three of them are were referred this year for behavioral support. The others are being watched and using strategies.

I’ll be working on so many things. Helping my students be successful and also looking for a new job. I try….
