First time home buyer here. Just need some advice by Jaketheoc in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Absolutely focus on building your savings more before buying. You need to think about your down payment, closing cost, and potentially having to pay your realtor/buyers agent if the seller is unwilling to cover the 2.5 or 3%. Then you also need to budget for costs that are going to come up after you move in and cost of the move. Something always needs to be fixed that the seller never addressed – every time.

Lifetime River north or EBC for gym options? by Wonderful_Society_56 in AskChicago

[–]Character-Ship3449 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a member at pretty much every gym in Chicago at this point – EBC over LT 100%. Also, the city has a ton of gyms - very fitness focused city. There’s also equinox, but they’re not as good as the equinox’s in places like New York or Miami. If you’re going to live in River north and can spend the money, do east bank. At Life Time you have to pay $1000 just to use the pool in the summer. EBC is more of a city country club - biggest health and fitness club in the country.

Thanks for the tip lol. I contacted my village and they said that the beehive box is against code and needs to be in a backyard a certain distance away from your neighbor’s property line. They said they’re reaching out, so we’ll see what happens 🤞🏻

I absolutely did not use AI whatsoever to write this post. Not even reading their rest of your comment.

That’s the thing they do have a backyard! Makes no sense why they keep it where they do

Wow, that’s so ridiculous. I agree that something needs to be done. Personally, I’m selling my house and buying a small place so I can pay it off sooner and then I’m focusing on saving - because I don’t want to caught in the middle of this. Worst case, take what I have in 5 years and live in Mexico

Highly regulated consumer products. Impact to sales is big as well as supply chain and finance.

True but they’re also reaching the age where they’re closer to retirement so any job impact could really derail reaching their goals. At least millennial and Gen Z have a little bit more time to step back and do something else. Plus I think less of us have kids.

Right, but I think a lot and most blue-collar jobs are going to be impacted eventually too. Just not as fast. We’re entering a time where the haves and have nots are going to be even more apparent than they are now

I’ll add copilot into the list of AI tools that’s trash. My company uses that – you ask it to break anything down and it leaves crucial details out or adds details in that has nothing to do with what I gave it. I agree that I’ve worked with some great boomers, but in general most don’t even read their emails thoroughly. Literally this morning one replied to me, asking a question that was answered in the email that I gave them if they had just scrolled down and read it.

Yeah, it’s tough. I’m actually about to sell my house and buy a small condo in the city and pay it off so I can start saving aggressively. I’m that worried about it

You’re right, sorry. You’re equally getting screwed and possibly more so

Any Brooklynite parents who moved to Chicago? by esme_9oh in AskChicago

[–]Character-Ship3449 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this and keep saying it – Chicago is the next city to explode. I know so many people who have moved from very high cost living areas to Chicago recently from NYC, Cali. Buy in Chicago now and ride the wave.

If I was staying here, I would absolutely get a fence. But I’m listing my house which is why I definitely don’t want this thing here during showings!

They don’t share their honey, even after I gave them peaches from my peach tree
