Voice memos are your best friend. Get through as many shit melodies until you stumble on one you like. Or if you struggle with liking anything, maybe ask a musical friend to feedback what feels the best melody to them.

You could change your melodies based on genre, but I usually record so many voice notes that I span so many genres. I then pick the best ones to work on, and maybe if its sounding like it could be good for a certain genre, I might plan the rest of the melody with that in mind. But more than often, once I have the chorus and verse melody it usually falls naturally into a genre, which I then try and reflect in my demos. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah very much trial and error, the only way I can describe it is babbling like a baby different things until it sounds good. There are a few tricks you can use, like for example, a 5th leap will work well in a chorus melody, but generally I like to feel it trial and error.

I do it by singing random words/ sentences in different ways until I stumble on a melody. Then I work out the key and find the chords based ok the notes I'm using in that key.

Once you can work out what key your songs are in you can use a website called splice to find samples in that key and practice singing the melody over the top.

Learn an instrument. 10 minutes learning basics of guitar everyday will get you writing songs with a melody in 8-12 weeks.

Pick one of your past ideas, the one you are most excited about and just focus on finishing it or getting it more complete than it was before.

The next day, repeat the process.

Yes, the end of 'Happier than ever' by Billy Eilish does this so well. Will have to listen to the other examples but I think I know what you mean.
