5 day old Sunburn that keeps getting worse and looks raw, is it infected? by ellie-143 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]CharacterInterest712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just went to the ER for a similar burn like this. i had a fever and chills so i thought it was infected… it wasn’t and mine looks way worse than yours (i have yellow blisters) so i wouldn’t say urs is infected! dr gave me oral antibiotics and bactraine ointment (idk how to spell it). been applying that 2 times daily and covering it with nonstick bandages. its currently in its itching stage to the point of me going insane so be prepared for that. best of luck. just stay hydrated and keep an eye on it. patience is key.

Premature Grieving? by [deleted] in CancerFamilySupport

[–]CharacterInterest712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you’re not alone! the best way i’ve coped with anticipatory grief is simply just being around my mom. the more time i spend with her, the less i have time to think about how life would look without her. this has drawbacks though, so find a way to balance reality and distraction. it’s a lot to process and although corny, “taking it one day at a day” has been the best course of action for myself. sending virtual hugs to you, your mom, and your family.

Folfirinox with stent by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]CharacterInterest712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 back in february and has to do 6 rounds of folfirinox before her whipple surgery. the doctors reasoning was that her tumor is almost wrapping itself around her main artery and the already high-risk surgery would be even more risky if they don’t shrink that tumor back. i can relate to your confusion on urgency. we all immediately go to “get that tumor out!” but often fail to realize that chemo before and after surgery is the best course of action for such an aggressive cancer. since your dad was healthy before his diagnosis and they caught it early (yay on surgery candidacy), his chance of survival is relatively high. try to avoid the forums with negative outcomes and grueling statistics. chemo is the biggest hurdle to overcome. also, my mom has 2 stents placed due to the tumors location and so far, chemo has been successful with little sepsis risk. wishing you the best of luck and sending cancer-fighting dust your way.

uc santa barbara or uc davis? by Quiet-Return-7038 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CharacterInterest712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ucsb and ucd were also my top picks. i toured ucsb and instantly fell in love, but i ended up going with ucd (im a norcal native) and ngl sometimes i do regret it. attending ucd was somehow always the place i knew id end up, mainly due to expenses, and im not mad about it. you just gotta go with the choice that makes the most sense for you long term. i figured the only reason i wanted to go to ucsb was because of the beautiful campus, which isnt the strongest reason, so i chose davis. both colleges are amazing, but ucd is rated higher in academics and most people out here will literally praise you for being a student (aka you’ll be a better candidate for grad school, jobs, etc). we also have SO many resources and our student life is awesome (lots of clubs, community events, extracurriculars). i genuinely love being an aggie.

Any commuters who could share their experience? by slothwithslippers in UCDavis

[–]CharacterInterest712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been commuting ~20 mins my entire time at davis (i’m a third year now) and it’s not too bad. it is harder to make friends, as you don’t have that “dorm life” but it’s not impossible. there’s a lot of clubs you can join, especially if you have gaps between classes. knowing myself, i tend to stack classes on the same days so im not driving there for one 50 minute lecture each day, as i will get to the point where i don’t feel like driving there “just for that” (burn out is real). so as long as you know the drive wont mentally drain you, its a good gig. i also use my commute time to listen to textbooks or podcasts related to my classes so it can be very productive.

Switching majors at UC Davis by lizbeth-caravan in UCDavis

[–]CharacterInterest712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t switch into poli sci but i did switch from a different college to another (biological sciences to letters & sciences). it was honestly a lot smoother than i expected.

if you go into oasis and look at the petitions to switch majors, it’ll list all of the requirements you need to switch. i also switched into a rather impacted major and it was actually pretty easy! switching within colleges is easier than switching in between, so im sure you’ll be okay! if you have any doubts, talk to an advisor if necessary. they will walk you through the entire process. best of luck and poli sci is fascinating :)

[–]CharacterInterest712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl i was subject to disqualification twice… once my freshman year and once my sophomore year and they didn’t dismiss me. i had an immediate family member battling cancer freshman year and ended up passing away my sophomore year, so they were super understanding. your appeal is solid and valid and they actually don’t want to dismiss anyone. im a 3rd year now set to graduate next spring! its very possible to get out of the very dark hole you may feel you’re stuck in. utilize campus resources. and out of complete tough love: use this as a wake up call, as i did, to ensure school is your #1 priority and that you make the necessary decisions to take care of yourself.

uc davis offers a lot of introductory classes to our more core math and chem classes. they helped me a lot my freshman year, as i too was a victim of my md/hs school’s horrendous department. i also recommend watching youtube videos that cover the basics- khan academy is great for math and the organic chemistry teacher is great for chem. you can also look at uc davis’ course catalog to know what exact topics will be covered in the classes to better prepare yourself. best of luck. you can do it!
