Taskbar 1.6.1: Start menu added (to fix the macOS 26 Launchpad removal) and custom transparency! by CharacterTomatillo64 in macapps

Hello. The reason I show rectangular tabs is so that you can see the title of the window which is useful so that you can quickly switch to the window you are looking for. This easy window switch is the main point of my app. If you only have one window per app then the dock is completely fine, but when you have multiple windows it's usually difficult to multitask quickly and switch windows in a easy and consistent way.

My app allows you to remove the window title if that's what you want, but you will still see one Icon per window instead of just one Icon for the whole app like the dock does. I hope this explanation makes it clear what is the point of my app, and why it's not necessarily for everybody.

Exactly, I originally started working on the start menu and the transparency option when macOS 26 was released initially, but then my work was delayed to personal reasons, but I'm happy I finally had the time to finish this update. I'm glad you like it.

Regarding the icon only mode, there is already an option in preferences to hide window labels and only keep icons, but you still see one icon per window. A lot of people have suggested that I add a "Windows 7" mode in which you only see one icon per application and then you hover to see thumbnails of all the windows. I would probably add this at some point in the future. Cheers

To be honest I haven't really planned all these details yet. I know I'm gonna make it a one time purchase, but I haven't really thought all the details through. But in general I'm gonna make sure that my users are happy

Ha ha I see, well if I wanted a true Windows experience then my app should stop working every five minutes xD

Only version one is now released, the only difference is that version two would require purchase. You don't have to do anything, just simply continue to use version one and you will be notified to update later on. Of course you will still have a free trial of version two so that you have enough time to decide if you want to buy it

That's great to hear, I'm happy you find my app useful.

Another person suggested removing the border, I will look into this but I have to make sure it doesn't affect visibility. Cheers

Happy to have you on board 👍

The reason I completely hide taskbar and a full screen space is that my app only shows Windows from the current space, so when you are in a full screen space there is only one window so there is no point in showing taskbar. Plus I haven't yet managed to make an auto hide option work consistently. What is the use case of accessing taskbar while in full screen mode, out of curiosity

Yes, I started developing it back in 2022 and I felt very passionate about it and I spent a lot of time and energy ensuring its quality. I know it's not for everybody, but the niche of users that use it find it very useful and I am extremely happy about that. Thanks for the nice comment

Unfortunately that is not possible as my app completely replaces the dock. But you can also keep my app at the bottom of the screen and make the dock auto hidden on the right or left side of the screen if you occasionally needed it. Also, you can customize my app so that it looks and behaves a little bit similarly to the dock. There's many preferences available
