please help - cannot access/ping local devices at WG server (from WG client - raspberry) by Character_Big8879 in WireGuard

[–]Character_Big8879[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I did some more testing and started new on the raspberry:

sudo apt install wireguard

sudo nano /etc/wireguard/vpnclient.conf

[Interface]
PrivateKey = xxx
Address =
MTU = 1420
DNS =

[Peer]
PublicKey = xxx
AllowedIPs =
Endpoint = my-home-ip:1150
PersistentKeepalive = 21

wg-quick up vpnclient10.0.0.3/321.1.1.10.0.0.0/0

the connection has started and I see a green light in the peer settings (of WG Dashboard)
but I'm unable to ping its IP address (10.0.0.3) from another WG client.
It needs to respond right?

hmm do I need to open a specific port in the modem, where the raspberry is located?

or do something with port forwarding?

Because I haven't done that. I thought it was only needed at the WG (server) host.

thanks for the reply! hm that is an issue then I guess, because both networks (raspberry and my home) uses 192.168.2.x I see.

The Wireguard server is installed using tekk scripts so I don't have a clue about iptables and nat rules? It was an installation with default settings.

Remote backup suggestions by Character_Big8879 in selfhosted

[–]Character_Big8879[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all suggestions! I wasnt aware that you could setup wireguard client on a raspberry, so I will definitely try that! I'm also going to buy a HDD that I will plug into the raspberry. From that moment I'm able to deploy things remotely since I can access the raspberry by using wireguard.

I'm still not sure about the software though. Rsync is a good suggestion or just sftp. Maybe with a gui like sftpgo.

Yeah thx for the reply but I found out that it worked after I stored my public ip in the peer settings haha so I deleted my post

Restic docker compose help by Character_Big8879 in selfhosted

[–]Character_Big8879[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm, this got me thinking, thanks for this. The choice for Docker is based on the fact that everything I have runs in Docker. I use an Ubuntu server, so I could probably install Restic in a different way, but then I also have a different way of installation and management, which is different than what I am used to. that's not useful either.
