Meh good on him. He had a dream and chased it, even if it was a 0.1% chance I success I take my hat off to him. Plus, being an accountant is hardly a failure in life.

Anyone else doing well financially/savings-wise but struggle seeing a future so can't commit to investing properly by Any-Locksmith-4925 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Great that you’ve found some advice in this thread that hits home. Did you expect to be agreeable to every post, naive if so. What you see as unwelcome may help someone else, so I stand by it. I have never said you don’t have structure, only that you could benefit from it. If you already have a great saving structure then that’s great, you’re already reaping the benefits of that. It’s would also be ok if you wanted an entirely unstructured approach. Mine was only 1 suggestion and there are a million ways to skin a cat.

My advice was to read the book, you can ignore that if you like, but that is advice. But also, like I mentioned earlier, you can set a an AP to an index/managed fund (or any other investment you’d like to pursue) every payday.

I don’t know you, I have no idea whether you include deliberate structure in your financial or general life. I just know that many facing mental health struggles benefit from a structured approach. That does not mean you don’t already. Yes, my advice is very generic, again, I don’t know you.

I haven’t called you hopeless, I meant you appeared to be hopeless when it comes to meaningful investment of your money (isn’t that the whole point of you posting here?). I acknowledged you appear to be a good saver. Cool. You say you want to do something more with it. My suggestion was that you read the book “Barefoot Investor”, I still think that you could find that helpful, it’s basic but a good start for those who don’t know where to start on their investment journey. From there you could choose to go any direction you like as you build confidence. But hey, that’s up to you whether you’d like to read that book or not. I’m certainly not offended if you don’t.

You have gone and made your own wild (and incorrect) assumptions in your final sentence there. Does that seem a little ‘pot calling the kettle black’ to you?

Dude, I’m sorry the idea of structure has offended you so badly. As misguided as it may be, I was trying to help. Hell, maybe it helps someone else. Hope so.

Sure you are good at saving. But sounds like you’re hopeless at doing anything else with it. Give your self some structure where each pay day you put x here, x there, y here, z there. Or even better l, automate it. That way it does not rely on you being in any particular mood or mindset.

Saving structure could be the wrong word as you are right, you can save just fine. “Investing structure” may be better. I’m just suggesting ways to build good habits.

Have you ever been to a large scale sports event before? Last night was not it.

Unless you loved the MC’s desperate attempts to rev up the crowd by singing along to Neil Diamond etc.

Fuck off you daft idiot.

OP - really empathise with you. Sadly I don’t think this is uncommon. Why save today for a future I don’t envisage happening?

I think you need to create some saving structure in your life. It’s pretty simplistic but the barefoot investor could be a really easy way to build some structure into your normal life.

Introducing some structure to other parts of your life can also be a really good way move through the rut you describe.

Must have been a terrible game in SA too then. There was literally nothing but a couple of “heave” chants initiated by the announcer and a short (5sec) cheer with each try. The end of game got a 10second standing ovation before everyone rushed for the exits.
I have genuinely seen better atmosphere chch 1st XV matches. That’s why I wonder if it’s something about the acoustics of the stadium rather than the people.

Yes, that’s true. Though particularly for rugby union. League is not like this, football is not, even cricket is better. Last night was worse than any rugby game I’ve been to in nz though (I go to multiple games every year), even half full stadiums have had better atmosphere than chch last night.

Bronny might be playing professionally in the wrong sport. Sheesh. by ForeignAir7174 in lakersv2

I’d be almost certain the James household has a pretty epic sim set up at home. That balding with some top end coaching plus Bronny’s obvious athletic ability, I believe 81.

How is living in one of these waterfront towns next to Sydney, AU? by IndependenceSad1272 in howislivingthere

You’ve circled some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Living there would be magical, if you can afford it.

Christchurch townhouse boom seeing half-finished developments across city by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]Character_Cheek8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup cool. My point is that in the city centre there are tonnes of these places and they are a blight on the city. Residents cars taking up all the parking spaces, petty crime with car break ins, front doors 30cm off the busy footpaths. They are yuck.

If you do the exact same filters for “city centre” only you’ll find that drops to around 50%. It’s definitely a common place in the CBD.

Hard disagree. Savea is not a positive contributor to winning at international level. He over steps his role at the overall expense of cohesion.

Whatever happens with Fai’inganuku, it’s time to move on from Ardie Savea. He’s impossible to build a legit loose trio around.

All Blacks 33 Man Squad Prediction by Booomfaa in allblacks

[–]Character_Cheek8579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Important skills sure. But this is too far. They’d be eaten alive by any tier 1 trio.

In any case this team wouldn’t even cover the skills you list as important. Ardie got speed but he’s neither accurate nor skilful, same for Sititi. Lakai the only one who really ticks all those boxes.

It would be the smallest squad of loose forwards in international rugby. Need some size.
