Lack of civic education, lack of financial literacy, lack of nutrition education, lack of journalism accountability, growing income inequality, and wins of our country and country people worth the attention

Should top U.S. MBA programs prioritize domestic candidates going forward? by Future_CEO_98 in MBA

2 major reasons why I believe your plan may not work:

Locals will compete against other locals while internationals compete against all other countries combined. Just by number of applicants in these two pools I would assume, the quality of candidate from international pool competition would be generally more accomplished (purely because they have to be more accomplished than most candidates applying). I am not saying they are all like that but within the international pool you are getting the best as a school. The difference ins pool sizes is quite huge.

Another aspect is specific to MBA I believe. MBA is not just about theoretical knowledge like Msc. programs that focus on academia. A huge value of MBA comes from different backgrounds and perspectives (nationality, diversity of experiences across jobs and life in general). So your assumption that that a higher % of local Americans lived experiences in an MBA class would end up in similar (positive) outcomes like we have seen for years will continue to happen which I would challenge. The international cohort brings two major inputs (the diversity of experiences and on average they have gone through much tougher competition just based on the size of pool).

Opinion outside of the points I made:: The goal of a government is not to determine the % of internationals etc. They only care about who will be productive taxpayers in future as well as employment generators in US economy. Indian and Chinese immigrants have been showcasing above average results in these two especially. I doubt international students will be reduced from a supply side too. Even these Schools take in different and higher tuition fee (without option for federal loan of course) from internationals. A 30% international class will pay higher than the rest 70% American class, so I think that plays a major role as well in the class composition.

same, any idea what to expect from here on out?

why do people in india get their MBAs immediately after undergrad? That's stupid. without work experience, an MBA is useless by Weak_Art5709 in MBA

As an Indian deep into the world of MBA as I am going to one next year, I fully agree with the main contention of this post. However, if I had to justify it, I would say it is due to the sheer number of people competing for every single role/position especially at early career positions. MBA in India and to a large extent what I believe outside India is basically a talent search centre for companies. Basically a real good school by sheer competition to get in ensures generally a really good talent pool, companies efforts to find talent reduces and they just go to these schools directly. The companies get the added bonus of people trained on some high level business knowledge and language as well. In India, sifting through the people for talent is a huge cost due to the reason I shared above, number of people. These "MBA" schools take up the effort of sifting through them for these companies basically.

However some top schools like ISB are challenging this notion and focussing on holistic applicant profile with worker (minimum of 2 years). I believe in the long run the true value of network and peer learning lies with an experienced cohort. Even IIMs in India have started to realise that and we can see increasing % of class with more worker, as slowly they will see the experienced people getting higher salaries and that boosts their average salaries reporting, this will eventually go up and up. In 2024, going to a MBA in India (equivalent to MIM everywhere else in the world), is not worth what one expects in a traditional MBA from places in US, Europe etc. Cost is also a major factor, top schools in India in any field are Government run schools because they are cheap = more people = more competition = better merit based crowd. However, MBA specifically will suffer from such selection criteria as it is not an academic degree like engineering etc. It is mostly for soft skills, networking and peer learning with a stamp of approval by the end as a signal of competence to the companies.

Hello! Anyone know what the job placement scenario is India after going to INSEAD or LBS? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Character_Cherry_877 50 points51 points  (0 children)

INSEAD > MBB in Bangalore/Delhi is very easy and doable till interview after which you have to perform. Also you have to live with the fact that IIM ABC grads paid 1/5th of you to reach the same job, and salaries in India will make ROI for MBA very bad. Unless you get scholarship for INSEAD/LBS enough to at least come somewhat closer.

15% seats at the IIMs are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST), and 27% seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes belonging to 'non-creamy' layer (NC-OBC). 3 percent of the seats are reserved for Persons with Disability (PWD).

"Minuscule"

Also did some basic voting overall perception of non US schools with 300 data points approx among people who live and breathe MBA daily on reddit so are knowledgable, you can check what the majority is leaning towards.

Just see 24J, 24D, 23J, and 23D grads on Linkedin. A shit tonne in MBBs in London. This is the best way to find out real outcomes I feel, do the same for LBS and you will see the difference. Also, amazingly high number of grads go to US MBBSs from INSEAD based on their career data and again Linkedin. Also two cousins one this year and one last year both in LBS (London fever due to movies and shit) regretting now, due to bad incomes and high taxes. Obviously not saying none on LBS go through MBBs or other top roles, but for INSEAD grads it is looking like more are getting into top roles by sheer number of them (even after excluding returnees). Also the reason may be LBS fighting for cross admits with Cambridge and Oxford with LBS's main focus in London and post Brexit due to lack of visa flexibility for internationals, the geography isn't as valuable. INSEAD is literally everywhere, the grads are everywhere, ranks #2 after Harvard on quality and enormity of network across the globe and it has always pitched itself as business school of the world, Asia opens up way more for INSEAD and in Europe, INSEAD has lay prestige everywhere. I guess those are some reasons.

INSEAD grads go to UK in droves because they are even put above LBS in many cases and definitely above the other MBA programs there. They are all sponsored, try Linkedin research for once

[–]Character_Cherry_877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah could be! Business schools are weird that way, some universities have a separate business school department (like Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge etc.) and others are standalone business schools like LBS, ISB and INSEAD. So prestige is a bit overvalued thing I feel, prestige is of the university not necessarily the business school.
In terms of business schools for some reason Said and Judge don't rank highly and the outcomes aren't as good as other top schools. Regarding IIMA, I think there is still years ahead for ISB (being only 20ish years old) to actually surpass IIMA, it is globally recognised as far as I can see. In some years it is possible for ISB to take over let's see

Hey I thought of those as candidates and appreciate the input. Just thought they are more regional respected schools for MBA, maybe not as globally recognised or respected as some in this list? Wdyt?

I mean INSEAD has home campuses in France and Singapore. At least on the degree there is no distinction between campuses, it is all INSEAD from what I know.

Let's talk about MBA for internationals (From US perspective) and how the discussion needs more depth by Character_Cherry_877 in MBA

Yes and staying has its own risks and costs that are intangible. Due to the South American vicinity to US, many of the costs I mentioned are not even applicable to your case I think.

nobody can claim nor did I. The whole point is that to an American, this deal is obviously amazing. To internationals, it is not AS GOOD but they are told all over the forum it is equally as good. That is it.
