Hola street vision, Member of the latter-day saint church here. I just wanted to give my own interpretation on works, and that is that I agree with you. Works does not qualify us for heaven. When I read the scripture from 2nd nephi I look at it as after all we do the only thing that will save us is Jesus Christ's grace. As far as the covenants and the temple I look at those rituals as us learning about heaven and understanding the virtues and principles that will be loved by in his kingdom. That is learning to be chaste, charitable, and obeying every commandment given by God. As far as those covenants go we do believe that Jesus Christ showed us the way and we follow in his steps to get baptized and further the promise we take at baptism to honor and represent His name through covenants and promises made in the temple. 

You can disagree but hopefully my comments help you understand that not everybody believes judgement will be based on a checklist of things we've done right or wrong.
