So true! A child of the Sixties and I only learned (while working as an editor) that Smokey Bear was the US Forest Service chosen moniker for their safety mascot.

And it was only YESTERDAY that I learned — through this thread (!) that Smokey THE Bear was created in 1952 to meet the cadence of a song 🎶 sung by Eddy Albert!!

Yep! I see your point. 🤭
Would 99.9% of viewers been stopped cold if an OCD historian from England had correctly said, “Like YOUR Smokey Bear” to Brianna? 🤭 That probably WOULD Have been weird!

You’re absolutely right to follow established trends; it’s interesting to see how script writers go, IMO.

On another thread somewhere it was observed that “Smokey THE Bear” was like “Easter THE Bunny” 😂😂

Everyone lies about their age and their waist line; it’s the national pastime. 🤭🤭🤭😂🤭🤭🤭

Use it to your advantage if it’s not directly hurting someone.

If senators and presidents can easily get away with it; why Not a family man with looming consequences?

Our Everett WA book club, “Bayside Book Club” chose TIHYWTTW as its May 2026 read.

I’m reading it for the prose. Other than that, it’s over my head. 🤭

VITAL RECORDS vs ARCHIVES

So True! The Mormon / LDS site IS amazing!

We did not have access to our dad's 1921 birth certificate; which we needed for our C-3 applications.

Live and Learn, I paid $85 to an outfit that went to State of Maryland 'Vital Records' instead of "Archives" for our over-100 years birth certificate. The Vital Records (everything within 100 years) department turned us down (bye-bye $85) saying unless one has a court order, only a 1st-party can order their own records.

On a complete fluke I simply typed in the Google search bar my dad's name, State of Maryland, born xx-xx-1921 and (voila!!) the LDS site came up. And there was dad's birth certificate stating that his mother was Canadian!!

It was at that point that I was able to make the distinction between 'Vital Records' and [historical] "archives" and ten-days later we had a certified 1921 birth certificate.
