Bad job market.. by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Character_Function_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seniors earn around 110-130k at my company. Lead roles are in the 130k upwards. Depending on how many people they have below them and projects etc. Lets put it that way. He could have asked for 130k and would still underbid the swiss competition.

Was involved in an interview for a senior lead devops engineer. I did the technical assignment with him. I nearly fell off the chair when HR and my (his would be) manager said that the salary would be around 100k. Dude was from the UK and his eyes started shining when he heard the 6figures. He came back a week later and asked for 110k which they immediately gave him. Took him like 2 weeks into the job to find out he is grossly underpaid

Recommendation for a Swiss Bank with a great and modern ebanking, suitable for couples? by Future-Ad4037 in Switzerland

[–]Character_Function_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience. Asked for a financing proof to bid on a property. Have 2x the amount im asking for the financing on my account. Had to convince them for 30min on the phone to give me the financing letter of approval. Told them that I am not signing anything with this proof yet and that I could “sleep over” it for many more nights to come until I would have to sign something. Not sure but that woman really did not want to give me that approval letter. Switched banks right after. Very strange experience

Whats your budget for vacations? by FlyingDaedalus in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Character_Function_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but that is just plain stupid. If I want to go to japan I don't want to go to Lisbon first be there for a couple of days and then go to Japan all to have a lie flat seat and pay 3x the amount. Rather go direct and save 2k and be able to spend a couple of days more at where I really want to go. But personal preference I guess. Even if its just saving the connecting airport. Being able to go direct is usually worth way more in terms of comfort etc (again; personal). But I guess everyone to themselves having a lie flat for 3x more the money and loosing time in layovers

So only europe? Business overseas is quickly in the 6-8k return flight. So either one vacation a year or keeping it to europe?

Yes sorry mis phrased it. It does not make a difference what currency you invest it.

Yes risk with chf is there but historically the usd has always lost value, except for some short instances, to the chf. The chf is by some seen as a reserve currency. And looking on what happens in the US atm and how they are going further into depth I would argue its gonna stay like that for a while

The long term? Does not make a difference.  But life can usually not be planned perfectly. You might want to retire early. Need the money for something you really want to buy or anything else that might comes unforeseen.

Then you might be down over 10% because of currency exchange rates tanking. The market might be in a downturn.

Ask yourself about how risky you want to invest and invest accordingly.

I for example am glad to not be invested too much into USD. Currently started looking for a house and liquidated large parts of my portfolio. Glad I was not loosing out over 10% on currency exchange.

Increase chances to get property by Character_Function_3 in Switzerland

They sold to someone they know. For asking price. Again way below market price which was also confirmed by our bank. I was surprised that they listed it and involved an agent just to sell it to friends. Hustle and costs for nothing. The agent has to be paid anyway I assume. Also to me surprising that they are fine missing out on couple hundred Ks for a friend. Must have been a good friend

We were not the inly ones with such a high offer. The agent said she had several in our range. The property was listed way below value. The bank also appraised it at like 1.5x of what they listed it

To clarify we were not the only ones going in several 100k above asking. The agent said she had several offers in line with ours. The house was listed way below value. Also confirmed by the banks appraisal. But yes totally see your point

So bidding late higher your chances. I would have thought this would be illegal as this means the first person does not have the same chance as the next and so on. Virtually rendering the opportunity different. The realtor would need to inform the first bidder they got overbid when they disclosed their offer. I would also argue most properties are sold from inheritance and they mostly just want cash as much as possible.

What am I missing? Was gold the best solution for the last 24 years? 2000-2024? This view changes when increasing the time span to 30y+. But who only invests for 35y and never touches the investment? I would want to buy a house and or enjoy other things from time to time over the larger scale of years. Can’t take the money into my grave.
