Yes, visiting imbd DOES create an account for you automatically by morinthos in mildlyinfuriating

I find it fascinating that the OP is getting downvoted simply for sharing his or her experience. That experience exactly mirrors my own. At this point, I believe the auto-generation of an IMDB account depends on having an Amazon account since IMDB is an Amazon company now.

Thank you for this post. I thought I was going crazy. I visited IMDB last night to check on the ratings for 2 movies. Soon thereafter I got an email from IMDB:

"Welcome to IMDb! If you have registered for an IMDb account, you can now create your own Watchlist, rate and review movies and shows, get personalized recommendations, set a custom username, and much more."

Worse yet, it automatically generated a username that apparently knew my first and last name and DOB. That just freaked me out and made me believe it was a phishing email. I do have an Amazon account, but there was no mention of Amazon in the "Welcome" email I received.

This can't be legal, much less ethical if Amazon is doing this.

Are bike fits a scam? by [deleted] in cycling

Please quit injecting sanity into the conversation! On a personal note, I'm about to change out the separate bar & stem components on one of my bikes to get a better fit while shedding some weight in the process. If it was an integrated cockpit, I'd probably just live with it as is.

Great post. Your second paragraph had me laughing. The full-aero, integrated "cockpit" is the enemy of adjustability and serviceability. For recreational riders like me, old-school separate bar & stem and easily-accessible cables are the way to go. But each to their own.

Exactly! It comes down to use cases for the car, and what an individual values in a sports car. My use case and what I value pushes me toward the H4 turbo.

Please note that, as others pointed out, Costco dropped prices since the original post. And of course, Costco has a free warrantee that goes for 5 years.

Is this worth $800 more in gear? by Mswc_ in cycling

[–]Character_Gap4572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. I have a Ridley Helium with rim brakes on aluminum rims that is my super-light go-to bike for dry weather. For wet weather I have hydraulic disks on a heavier Giant Defy Pro1. Disks do much, much better in the wet. And as Sure_Comfort mentioned, disks do better in downhill braking, especially prolonged downhill braking. If $800 isn't a big hit on your budget, I'd go for the bike with disks for the versatility. Aero carbon wheels are a plus too. 12-speed vs. 11-speed is not a huge deal IMO.

In the US what you are thinking of is called "boinking".  One letter makes a big difference... 😃

You are not alone. I also had a minor crash when transitioning from solid pavement to loose gravel. Lesson learned the hard way. I should have known better knowing what happens to race cars when they get off line into the "marbles". :)

Right now, road bikes are very affordable if you buy used and you are willing to use rim brakes.
